Serial monogamy is our evolutionary state. Farming and animal husbandry gradually replaced it under multigenerational families. Absolute nuclear families the result of capital accumulation. We no longer have incentives: the pill, redistribution, heavy taxes, no fault divorce.

@BagleyDevon Rationality (reasoning) and rational actor (following incentives) are two different things. People are rational actors. They follow incentives. We cannot force people to stay married, only assist one another in re-sorting into new families.
