The abandonment of using it as a gold standard that you compare other modes of human interaction to has done more harm than good in the idea space, as well as to the society at large. For instance it leads to propagation of unempirical ideas that would not survive all required test of existence. It has also lead to an unformalised polity with many pathologies that we correctly identify as woes of modernity and follies of representative democracy.
