If they get it down to 120-150k, it will crush Porsche, and dig a hole for Ferrari. I mean, it’s very, very hard to argue with those specs and 650m range. That’s a grand tourer (4 seat) supercar for cheap, with nearly perfect balance.
Right now my favorite car on the market are still the aston and jaguar. But it’s really hard to look at this thing and say … well, you know, everything else is a steam powered horse and buggy by comparison.Renan RibeiroIts a looker too. Paint it black and remove the backseats and it is a beast.Oct 14, 2018, 3:56 PMJay SchmittEvery wealthy person will want this in their car collection. And there are *many millions* of wealthy people. That’s why Tesla is never going out of business. Like Apple, they are taking electronics and turning them into highly desirable luxury goods. That translates into an extremely valuable brand name, which can be leveraged at the middle tier of the market. To keep up with the upper middle class, the middle class will aspire to own a $50,000 Tesla.Oct 14, 2018, 4:08 PMBjorn MoritzAre those specs real?Oct 14, 2018, 4:18 PMCurt Doolittlesure looks like it. the prototypes exist.Oct 14, 2018, 4:19 PMBjorn MoritzWow, that’s a game changer.Oct 14, 2018, 4:20 PMJay SchmittYes, it’s possible with today’s technology. The only issue is getting the price down from >$1,000,000 to $250,000. Musk can do that.Oct 14, 2018, 4:21 PMBjorn MoritzJay Schmitt I honestly don’t know why the US government doesn’t invest billions into SpaceX to keep ahead of the competition. I think they’ve proved themselves after the Falcon Heavy. Coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Let’s get ourselves back to the Moon and Mars. He must have a great team.Oct 14, 2018, 4:23 PMCurt Doolittle^^^ Well, that’s my opinion of Tesla, SpaceX and Boring. All three of these are not fundable by private market alone, but they are better MANAGED by private market alone.
Tesla created the market, and what has it cost the government? It doesn’t matter if the competition wins. It was simply the cheapest means possible of transferring from petroleum to electric vehicles….Oct 14, 2018, 4:25 PMJay SchmittYes, we could’ve done this ten years ago, possibly 15. But the funding suddenly appeared and made it possible.Oct 14, 2018, 4:27 PMBjorn MoritzCurt Doolittle in your opinion will he put man on mars in the next decade or is that just hype?Oct 14, 2018, 4:27 PMRastko MomcilovicSpaceX package. They are all working on hybrids and pure electric models. I saw Porsche release their first full electric concept about a week ago.Oct 14, 2018, 4:35 PMHoward Van Der Klauwhttps://www.topgear.com/car-news/frankfurt-motor-show/mission-e-porsches-600bhp-all-electric-sports-car-2018Oct 14, 2018, 4:36 PMJay SchmittYep, they are. But they don’t have the valuable brand name associated with electric vehicles that Tesla does. So they aren’t selling nearly as many cars.Oct 14, 2018, 4:36 PMHoward Van Der KlauwOne question is has Tesla squandered its technological lead through poor production management and opened the door for the traditional manufacturers to gazump them.Oct 14, 2018, 4:37 PMJay SchmittThat’s a bet I’m willing to take. I think Tesla will come out on top based on their brand name alone.Oct 14, 2018, 4:38 PMHoward Van Der KlauwJay Schmitt well we just have to wait and see if your earlier comment above about owning the top and expanding to the middle actually works as a strategy for them. Tesla has certainly done ground breaking work.Oct 14, 2018, 4:40 PMRastko MomcilovicThreesome vs rocket thrusters. Any other car manufacturer out there can bring this same product out.. indeed this is scarcely even a uniqe car – the current roadster is a Lotus Elise with a battery.
Assuming Tesla is around in two years’ time – why would folks want to pay 5x the price for something that is likely falling apart and has performance that appeals to weekend racers. It isn’t even useful for the Autobahn because it can’t deliver speed and range.Oct 14, 2018, 5:28 PMThiago Modelborn Pereira-BerthoNo because Porsches and Ferrari’s look much betterOct 14, 2018, 5:31 PMArno KælandCurt Doolittle this car was actually designed by a woman and I think she may have been an American. The Model S scored higher on crash safety tests than any other sedan. Tesla is currently outselling BMW and Mercedes in America.
It’s not nearly as easy to copy Tesla as you think. The engineering in these cars is 5 years ahead of any competitor.Oct 14, 2018, 6:07 PMJay SchmittThe reason people are so down on Tesla is because it’s the most-shorted stock in history. So there are literally billions of dollars behind the anti-Tesla propaganda machine.Oct 14, 2018, 6:08 PMJay SchmittYes.Oct 14, 2018, 6:19 PMJay SchmittThe demand for electric cars, particularly with the Tesla badge on them, is virtually unlimited.
