Mandelbrot did wonderful work on the stock market and this effect. And it’s the best work I have seen: “All stock market activity is noise that reflects nothing but the discount rate moving through the economy.”

@SteveStuWill Um … We have a tendency to seek patterns that allow us to predict future states. It’s all that hierarchies of neurons do. When we study continuous data over a long period of time we adjust. If the article suggests we can shortcut that process it’s hard to believe….
