But when we teach history as the record of firsts, we rarely focus on the most important first: those who are fastest. Or the opposite: who are the slowest. Or worse, who declines and why. Most of human history consists of seeking opportunities at actionable human scale. However, in the current era, our greatest opportunities are those provided not by innovation, but the elimination of error, bias, wishful thinking, and deceit.***
