It’s not difficult to debate mainstream thinkers. Instead it’s just hard to earn a seat at the table by publishing a book that sells in commercial volume.
That’s what I need to do to go mainstream – although the idea nauseates me a bit.
I suspect it’s hard with a Harris, who is not knowledgeable enough to make the arguments he chases.
But in general the top academics are not hard to debate. Because most arguments come down to either cost, likelihood, or value, and much more rarely fact and theory.
What’s difficult is arguing with self convinced common idiots. Which is more like housekeeping: repetitive drudgery, that we simply must do to keep matters from getting even worse.
