The familialism of the catholics, and the legalism of the protestants. Catholics are largely failed countries. The longer a group has catholicism the more it declines. This is pretty evident.

What protestantism achieved was to transfer the church to the academy. But then the incentives of the academy once women were enfranchised were more insidious than those of the church.

So the problem was that we poorly incentivized the academy.
