VIA STRATFOR: –“It is unclear as yet whether the Islamic state can survive”—

Well, that’s not true. A state survives only because others states tolerate its existence, and they tolerate its existence only because the cost of intolerance may be higher than the cost of tolerance.

The question instead, is how a bunch of bandits and thieves who stole material goods and rob banks can construct a durable economy and can therefore provide income with which to sustain a state as an organization of individuals with common incentives.

ALL WARS ARE CIVIL WARS BUT ALL WARS REQUIRE FUNDING

It is terribly terribly easy to destroy the economic capacity of a region and reduce it tot he stone age. We have demonstrated how easy that is.

The problem is then in killing every living soul who comes out of that region until they prefer to form a productive polity rather than perform raiders.

It is a uniquely Christian stupidity NOT to kill every living soul that comes in and out of such regions.

Either stay and fight, or try to leave and die. That is the only means by which we provide people with the incentives to resist barbarism. Otherwise they merely make barbarism our problem instead of theirs.

When it is they and their culture and believes that create barbarism.
