    PUTIN OVERPLAYED HIS HAND

US State Department has the spin going, it’s good spin, and someone got the right talking points to the president. Best tactic for Putin is “self determination without chaos”. And just wait. Fear of looking weak might drive him to push the Crimean issue, and then try to split the country under ‘self determination’. My gut is that as long as the protesters hold out for resignation of the president, then unity will prevail. Very interesting.

Scared as hell the past few days but it’s such a privilege to be here and see people topple a corrupt government.

    http://nomocracyinpolitics.com/2014/02/07/secession-and-messianic-statism-evaluating-the-current-union-of-the-states-part-1-by-allen-mendenhall/ON SECESSION

Your rhetorical framework for both parts 1 and 2, is critical, and accurate, but it does not take into account that decentralization would distribute all the wealth, status, and trade negotiating power currently in washington to the regions, and reduce the transaction cost of conducting economic policy.

The arguments for secession are (a) normative (b) institutional (c) economic (d) artistic and cultural, and (d) personal – given that status would be redistributed to individuals in the regions.

The arguments against secession are that the value of the dollar, the value of the military, and the value of insurance against catastrophe by all other regions. But it’s possible (and simple) to preserve those properties, and secede at the same time.

(BTW: When defining the state as a territorial monopoly, it’s Weber that Rothbard is quoting.)

    Cheers

http://news.kievukraine.info/2014/02/russias-save-ukraine-memorandum-prevent.htmlUKRAINE UPDATE: GREAT ARTICLE ON RUSSIAN INTERESTS AND SOLUTIONS

Russians playing the great game, and doing it in public – the western way.

    Very interesting.

Russian is a pragmatic language and Russians have pragmatic culture. It’s not really idealistic at all. Maybe the opposite. But as a low trust society it’s been difficult for them to move political discourse into the public sphere.

Westerners of course work by a different ethic: get conflicts out in public so that we can resolve them. And over the past decade you consistently see the Russians moving toward the western model.

The article below lists in honest terms both why Russia cannot tolerate a european Ukraine, and, how to solve it as a collective crisis that positions Russia as the rational actor against, what the rest of the world (rightly) sees as irrational western immoral political behavior.

Now, what I would like to see from the western side, is focusing on using Russia to collapse corruption in Ukraine, and to use Ukraine as a model by which to test how to restructure Russia.

Because these people stilly act like Boyars and Oligarchs: oppressive parasites..

  • “Libertarian” Shouldn’t Mean “Stupid”

LIBERTARIAN SHOULDN’T MEAN “STUPID” What libertarian means to me is: (a) a preference for liberty above all other political preferences, and (b) that all rights can be reduced to property rights, and (c) that I actively pursue obtaining liberty for myself and other a daily basis by sacrificing my time and effort to pursue it. LIBERTARIAN SHOULDN’T MEAN “WRONG” It does NOT mean that I agree with rothbardian ethics. Or that I think rothbard’s strategy of relying on the work of the french anarchist and jewish resistance movements, instead of the process by which property evolved in the high trust societies. In fact, I am pretty confident rothbard was a little bit right, but damagingly wrong. LIBERTARIAN SHOULDN’T MEAN “FAILED” So if libertarian means failing, and being wrong, then I’m not libertarian. LIBERTARIAN SHOULDN’T MEAN “ROTHBARDIAN” If you mean ‘rothbardian’ then no I am not a rothbardian since that would be irrational. LIBERTY IS THE PRODUCT OF ARISTOCRACY: The organize application of violence for the purpose of suppressing all involuntary extractions – including criminal, unethical, immoral, corrupt and conspiratorial actions. All of them. PROPERTY RIGHTS ARE WHAT’S LEFT ONCE YOU SUPPRESS ALL CHEATING. Property rights are what remain once we do that. You can suppress less, and have weaker property rights, and suppress more and have stronger property rights, but the velocity of your economy and therefore your wealth is predicated on the degree of suppression of involuntary extraction you suppress through the organized application of violence.

    (via Michael Pattinson)

Fight for your ancient rights. The law is the master of the state. The individual is the master of the government.

Without the rule of law, we are no longer americans, we revert to our fragmentary tribes.

Which is what we are in the process of doing.

I prefer my rights as an englishman.

I demand my rights as an englishman.

I deny you the right to deny me my rights as an englishman.

    AMERICAN POLICY IN A NUTSHELL

American policy (frustratingly) demonstrates rather than explicitly states, that you may have any government you willingly elect. But if you willingly elect a government that does not adhere to the charter of human rights both internally and externally; or if that government acts as a bad citizen in the network of finance and trade, then you and your government will be punished for the choice of the government you have elected, and you will be punished repeatedly and severely until you choose to elect a government that respects the charter of human rights and acts as a good citizen in the network of finance and trade.

They only talk about the carrot, but not the stick. They don’t do much distribution of carrots, but they distribute sticks all-the-live-long day.

That paragraph should be required as a warning label on all US diplomats, messages, goods, commercials, movies, passports, tickets, whatever we export. Just like we require warnings on cigarettes.

The USA is not a country. It’s a corporation. That corporation runs an empire. That empire controls the finance and trade system worldwide. We are all consumers of that system. In the main, it’s a better system than most that have existed. But the quality of that system is declining rapidly.

  • Why Do So Many People In The Usa Have Guns?

I own guns for the single purpose of resisting the government when necessary. I believe, without question, that it is a moral responsibility of every man to do the same.  I view those who do not do so, as free riders on the labor of others who make such moral commitments.
