    WHY ISN’T ARISTOTLE OUR PROPHET?

    (sketch)

Or is he the god of science and reason? Are we a polytheistic people after all?

“WE DO”: The people in the upper 20% want to know how to think and act

“WE CAN”: The people in the middle 30% want to imitate the upper 20%.

“WE CAN’T”: The people in the lower 50% want to know how to endure.

    Who are the prophets?

Will Durant was pretty much wrong about his heroes. He picked all warm fuzzy middle class consensus builders. I have to go with Murray’s analysis instead.

Strange day today. But I have put silver bullet in rhetoric that will at least keep the evil demon of babylonian, jewish and christian magian obscurantism in the tomb for a short while.

Although I expect that this is a problem of containing the living dead’s desire for constant resurrection.

    THE MINDFULNESS OF NOBILITY

My last love, Amanda used to thank the universe as a sort of personal prayer every day. She is a beautiful creature really. Terribly oversensitive. But special because she is one of those unreal creatures created by the ancient gods to remind us what fairies and elves were like, and where the idea came from.

Buddhism’s a little over the top for me. I guess, prayer does the same thing as meditation for most of us. Although, I wish we more modern verse, and particularly our pagan verse, so that focusing the mind was an act of recitation and rhyme rather than quietude. Our ancient english ancestors had to memorize the lore and recite it, which is of course, an exceptional intelligence test. But which method of ‘mindfulness’ is better for whom is an empirical question that is quite hard to test. and asians who rely on buddhism are much weaker in language than we are so perhaps quietude suits them. And the jews who are the best at language that that memorization and prayer to extremes and it works for them.

For me, I listen to a great mind read a great book, and that is all that works. The order in those minds creates order in mine.

I do not see life as suffering or disappointment, and I cannot even grasp the mind that sees it as such. I see life as being let loose in infinite orchard that I may taste as much of as I desire before I pass, and my measure of that life is determined only by the variety of that world I taste, and mark I leave on this world prior to departure. I have but one life, and it is my special present to enjoy. I see life as the the craft of making the thing that is me, and leaving the greatest mark that I can. Whether that be children, affected lives, or a great achievement.

This is an aristocratic philosophy that is more than 4000 years old. As far as I know, it is the best philosophy man has made. It says that I cannot lose in this life, except to choose to take on obligations I did not voluntarily enter, or accept restraints that I did not voluntarily bear. And to see learning – the building of excellence in ‘me’ as an unending quest for self perfection. TO try to rival the gods, so that they would desire us to be in their company, and we would be worthy to be in theirs.

A man is great because he fought well, worked well, and tried to become the best he could be.

And mindfulness is the perpetual recitation of that set of ideas, in word, deed, and impulse.

No man or woman, no matter what class or craft, weakness or strength, could be said not to have had a good life mindful of this goal.

There is but one life we get to life. The gods are but supernatural memories of our ancient heroes. And one chooses whether life is a hero’s journey, or a victim’s suffering. And one’s achievement is the change he creates in his state, regardless of his starting position.

In this way, all men can be noblemen. It is not a matter of wealth or strength. It is not a matter of power. It is a matter of mind.

Nobility is a choice. A mindfulness. To create excellence in yourself, and excellence in those around you, with the resources at your disposal.

Nobility is the cult of non-submission.

It is the cult of sovereignty.

    Sovereignty is a choice.

    My advice is to choose.

  • CONTRA HIGGS’ CRITICISM OF LIBERTARIAN IDEOLOGY (important piece) The most effec

CONTRA HIGGS’ CRITICISM OF LIBERTARIAN IDEOLOGY

    (important piece)

The most effective form of resistance to the state is organized mystical RELIGION, predicated upon FAITH. Religions determine the moral limits of what a state can impose on its people. That is the POLITICAL PURPOSE of religion. Americans have succeeded in resisting government intrusion more so than europeans precisely because americans have retained religiosity as a means of fortifying the family and the civic society against the expansionary state.

The most important property of IDEOLOGY is that it NOT be open to critical argument, while at the same time it must be “activating’ to the base. Because the purpose of IDEOLOGY is the accumulation of power, by means that are unassailable by critics. Ideology is just post-monarchial, democratic religion.

The most important property of PHILOSOPHY is explanatory power: the ability to reorder the values of objects and relations in order to provide us with utility in response to the accumulation of new knowledge. Philosophy is a high barrier, and must be converted by public intellectuals into ideology to function as a means of transferring power.

The most important property of SCIENCE is an increase in the inventory of facts that can describe causal relations as they factually correspond with reality. Science has been notoriously INEFFECTIVE at resisting the state, and in most cases, has accomplished the opposite: to replace the church and the previous status held by the church in the determination of the moral code, with academia. Except where the church and the state were competitors in the past, academia and the state are now dependent allies.

It is a mistake for academics, intellectuals, scientists, and often philosophers (although not this one), to attribute to religion and ideology those properties which render them useless as a means of obtaining or resisting POWER.

The MI crew, unfortunately, with full intent, took the strategy of the marxists and used the internet to promote rothbardian IDEOLOGY. This was so successful that Cato had to reverse its prior insularity, and GMU has had consider searching for new terminology for both libertarianism and Austrian Economics.

This ideology was unsuccessful in obtaining sufficient power to enact change, because the moral content of Rothbard’s liberty was regressive compared to that of the aristocratic ethics of the high trust society that we call the christian west. Something which I feel I have largely corrected. so the Mises Institute program was unsuccessful because it was predicated on DEMONSTRABLY IMMORAL PRINCIPLES.

Meanwhile no one has advanced the question of the business cycle sufficiently, (although PSST could have), and no one has advanced political or moral theory in the libertarian/Austrian community AT ALL other than Hoppe, and Hoppe’s arguments are buried in layers of unnecessary rationality and loadings that likewise hide his genius.

As such, I’m glad Robert Higgs can make so many errors in less than 300 words.

1- religion, ideology, philosophy, science and prescriptions for institutional models are all very different forms of advocacy for different people, with different knowledge and abilities. It is unwise to criticize them.

2 – Ideology IS MORE IMPORTANT than anything other than religion. Because of the number of people it influences. TO fail to understand this, and to attack one’s religious or ideological or philosophical, wing is to confuse facts with POWER. And politics is POWER.

3 – The correct response is to ask:

    (a) is that religious argument holding the state at bay and setting the moral terms of political discourse?

    (b) is that ideological argument succeeding in obtaining further acolytes, attention, publicity and political power?

    (c) Does that philosophical argument advance our argumentative ability against other philosophers, and the ideologies that develop as a result of their works?

    (d) Does this scientific explanation provide us with new knowledge that we can incorporate into our theory of action, which we call ‘philosophy’, or it’s means of propagation ‘ideology’, or its means of resistance ‘religion’?

    (e) If not, then one has nothing intelligent to say.

Internecine warfare in the libertarian movement is the result of the tragic failure of anyone who seeks liberty to solve the problem of the social sciences, or articulate the cumulative effects of state intervention on long term assets we call ‘social and human capital’, and the ability of people to maintain innovation and therefore an expanding quality of life.

The only advancement in liberty has come from the propagation of ideology on the one hand, and the resistance of the state by religion. In all other aspects, except those few that PeterB seems to regularly mention such as Olstrom’s; and a few contributions by Bryan and Tyler; or the insight into the structure of political incentives by Hoppe, the libertarian scholarly, and intellectual program has been a demonstrable failure.

Instead, the only success we can claim has been achieved by conservatives who have set the terms of moral debate, and by that moral debate brought our government to a standstill; and the various anthropological and biological and neurological sciences have demonstrated that the conservative vision of man is and was accurate. Otherwise political science, and economics have done nothing for us at all in holding or obtaining liberty.

Only a fool thinks politics is run by science. It is run by wealth, power, morals and argument, and science is but a convenient pawn for the furtherance of the same.

That’s just how it is. Stating otherwise would be UNSCIENTIFIC.

I’ll debate anyone in the community on these issues in an attempt to fix the current state of libertarian philosophy, and in an effort to, in political science, advance liberty, but I suspect vested interests are more preciously held than new truths are desired.

    ON MUHAMMED

The media can glorify anyone with nonsense words. But Muhammed was a warrior who took a bunch of ignorant criminals experienced in constant warfare and used them to raid two civilizations exhausted from long term war, and guarantee that they never returned to prior successes.

Would the world be a better place with the Sassanid Iranians and the Eastern Roman Byzantines unconquered? It’s pretty hard to argue otherwise. All of Islamic ‘thought’ was the product of conquered people from Greek, Byzantine and Sassanid empires, writing in Arabic to please their masters.

Very much like the same tactic, used by the mongols to conquer and rape the Indians and the slavs. Their is nothing to respect here. You can respect the Chinese at least for using their capacity for war to create a vast and wealthy civilization. But you cannot respect teh mongols, nor the arabs, because in both cases, they used cavalry tactics to destroy capital and trade. Their destruction of Mediterranean trade deprived Europe of gold, and trade from the wealthier east, and brought about the dark ages.

Sort of crediting the antique dealers for the design and production of their wares. Or the plague bearers for surviving. I mean, we aren’t all impressed with ourselves for wiping out the native americans.

If the christianization of Europe was not the greatest human tragedy in history, then the conquest of the Byzantines and the islamification of the Balkans, and the destruction of the Iranian indo-european civilization by the arab, certainly was. The most recent human tragedy was wold communism. Thankfully the Anglosphere was not sufficiently exhausted to resist it. And the economic program was such a failure that it wasn’t sustainable.

however, we must understand, that EUROPE **IS** exhausted, genetically and is dying under the weight of immigration without assimilation.

Only one people has invented science, reason, and industrialization, and done it twice. Everyone else is an also ran, except the Chinese, who probably would have done the same, if not prisoners of ideographic language, under the control of philosophers who failed to solve the problem of politics and therefore, the problem of economics.

Inbred, ignorant, mystical, low trust, anti-rational, anti-scientific, overbreeding, low intelligence, highly impulsive, incapable of intellectual or artistic innovation people are not impressive to me. I can make nearly the same criticism of rats and dogs.

Is that insulting enough. lol ?

    http://www.dw.de/ukraine-divided-land-divided-church/a-17296538

Protests in Ukraine have highlighted the division between the country’s two main Orthodox churches. One has an independent streak and is protecting demonstrators from police. The other is subordinate to Moscow. …

In the early hours of November 30, dramatic scenes played out before the monastery gates. A few hundred meters downhill, on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square), special police forces violently cleared a camp set up by opponents of the government. Hundreds of students were brutally beaten and chased into the surrounding streets. They found refuge at the monastery. Priests blocked the path of the baton-wielding police officers and did not let them through. …

The monastery’s opposition role does not appear to be a coincidence. It was destroyed during the Soviet era and rebuilt in the 1990s. It belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate. That church was founded after the independence of Ukraine and considers itself independent. But the Russian Orthodox Church has blocked it from gaining recognition as a part of the global Orthodoxy. The move was political, said Kyiv Patriarchate spokesman Archbishop Yevstratiy. “Russia wants to use the church to retain its influence over Ukraine.”

    Moscow’s schism

Most believers in Ukraine belong to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. It has its headquarters in the famous Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery on the steep right bank of the Dniper River. This church is subordinate to the Russian Patriarch. …

The two-decade-long division in Ukrainian Orthodoxy is reflected in the attitude toward the current events. Where the Kyiv Patriarchate granted demonstrators protection from the police, its priests praying alongside hundreds of thousands of protesters on the Maidan, the Moscow-oriented Patriarchate is behaving differently.

“Our priests may indeed go to the demonstrations, but only as citizens, and not as churchmen,” spokesman Grigori Kovalenko told DW. He denied, however, that this was due to instructions from Russia. “There is no influence on us from Moscow,” he said.

“LET THE PEOPLE DIVIDE. LET OUR PEOPLE GO”

    (1. The error of the monotheism – equality and unity)

    (2. The error of the enlightenment: equality and universal aristocracy)

    (3. The truth of property, contract, and prices)

LET THE PEOPLE DIVIDE. LET OUR PEOPLE GO.

Rather than prosecute the false argument that ‘We’ have much in common: LET THE PEOPLE DIVIDE.

Rulers take advantage of the false argument of the RELIGIOUS ERA: if we make claims of group interest, we can fool people into acting as if they are extended family.

I should work on this argument a bit, because the enlightenment error of universalism, equality, and an aristocracy of everyone, is also dependent upon the monotheistic error of ‘a family of everyone’.

    Neither of these are true.

    Polytheism is superior to monotheism.

Micro Polystatism is super to Macro-Monostatism.

The problem of human cooperation is not moral or ethical or any other form of emotionally misleading, and intellectually false group membership. We do not need to create conceptual or moral homogeneity and equality in order to live happily and peacefully and prosperously together.

The problem of human cooperation is technical, not preferential: PROPERTY, MONEY, and VOLUNTARY EXCHANGE.

    One cannot reason without logic.

One cannot describe cause and consequence without narrative.

One cannot create record and transport knowledge without writing.

One cannot count and compare units without numbers,

One cannot measure and compare spaces without operations and units.

    One cannot cooperate without property

One cannot plan production, without prices.

The market allows us to cooperate on means despite diverse ends.

Government is just an organization for the purpose of providing decision making where no other technology exists for the purpose of decision making (direct voting).

Legitimate government creates contracts : rights and obligations,

Illegitimate government creates commands, and fraudulently markets them as ‘laws’.

Government can facilitate cooperation in the market, or it facilitate rents on the market.

A government that does other than:

    1) enforce contracts, where contracts are not constructible, or enforceable without property rights.

    2) facilitate exchanges via trade policy between classes in cases impossible to construct in the market without such trade facilitation of trade policy.

    3) Provide a means of insurance

    …obtains legitimacy by:

    4) Violence for the self preservation of the privilege of te bureaucracy.

    5) Justification under the religious era’s error of unity of interest

    6) Justification under the enlightenment’s error of equality, universalism, and

However, this is a continuation of the technique of using repetition, obscurantism, complexity, and our natural cognitive biases, to deny us our ability and desire, to function as families, extended families and tribes, all of whom cooperate via the market.

but instead of micro-governemtns for families, extended families and tribes, pooling interests for trade policy, insurance, and enforceability of contracts, we are forced under macro government, to give up our opportunity to trade and instead, forced to seek rents and free riding and our own freedom from the state.
