We always have had prisoners (prisons), slavery(military), serfdom(labor), freedom(middle class), liberty (professional class), and sovereignty(political class). We still have all those things. We have just shifted them from physical constraint, to economic constraint, to credit constraint, to informational constraint. All that changes is that it is far cheaper to rule people by each generational evolution of incentives, and they work far harder with each iteration of incentives.

The quest for balance didn’t work because of political malincentives on all sides, so everyone pushed the extremes.

She is fit, healthy, 85, and only weighs like 90lbs or something like that. But you know, looks like he’s gonna get reelected, and that’s six years … Breyer is 79, and it’s possible that thomas will do the ‘right thing’ and pull his retirement before trump exits.

(This is a popular GIF of a scene from the 1981 movie “Scanners” where they clearly anticipated this political event. Although actor Michael Ironsides makes the scene all that much scarier.)

Sure looks that way. Lets hope he secures the court. It will make Sotomayor, Bryer and the evil witch of eastern Europe dead weight. Good chance we get at least one more out of trump.

AMERICAN POLICY IS NOT MORALLY GOOD – JUST PRAGMATIC PURSUIT OF MARKET PROSPERIT
AMERICAN POLICY IS NOT MORALLY GOOD – JUST PRAGMATIC PURSUIT OF MARKET PROSPERITY
Let me put something into perspective. America advocates markets and meritocracy and fixed borders. This sounds very ‘moral’ but it is just profitable for an advanced country to advocate meritocracy. For the same reason it is sensible for a less advanced country to advocate authoritarianism.
We all pursue self intersets. It is just that sometimes, self interest is in everyone’s interest. And America’s self interest is most often in everyone’s interest.
It’s not because americans are good or smart.
it’s because it is more profitable.

Curt Doolittle updated his status.
Why do you deserve to share this world with us? He who can destroy a thing, owns a thing- all else is permission. The first question of politics is why I and mine (if we can) do not kill you and yours and take your stuff. The only answer is that it is more beneficial to cooperate.
Until it is no longer more beneficial to cooperate.
