Theme: Externalities

  • Definition: Externality

    Dec 10, 2019, 11:03 PM “Externality” is a technical term and it’s meaning is obvious. If you do something that indirectly and negatively affects a third person, that’s an externality. It means ‘outside of your direct perception’. That’s not complicated. At all. ie: the ridiculous example of a butterfly flapping its wings in china causes tornado in America. The less ridiculous example of playing your music loud at night keeping up the neighbors. “Indirect consequences”.

  • The Difficulty in Cooperating on Externalities

    Jan 24, 2020, 7:57 AM Another axis of causality is the difficulty in cooperating on externalities, when it’s the collective sum of externalities that produces scale returns on cooperation (trust, velocity, tolerance). We make many decisions every day that can be biased for or against the group interest regardless of cost to us. Likewise hostile groups within a polity can bias their decisions against the host people’s interests. This is how social warfare is conducted: undermining.

  • The Cost of Non European Civilizations to Themselves

    —“Do you think being a european or not can be measured by the volume of the hazards of the externalities a person causes while coercing/persuading one’s self? And how the community constantly arranges to insure the externalities and and cover the damages?”— Mea Culba

    Non european communities seek to minimize stress of adaptation through relative equality and harmony – producing relative stasis – rather than adaptive competitive excellence – producing relative evolution, and the continuous distribution of the benefits of innovation and adaptation. Well, that’s the inverse of saying european civilization’s realism, naturalism, operationalism, empiricism, identity, logic, rational choice, reciprocity, together that constrain our logics, sciences and laws, collected in the physical laws of nature, the natural law of man, and the laws of testimonial thought and speech, place the highest burden on our conscientiousness and reason in exchange for eliminating frictions personal interpersonal political and external, and therefore the least frictions of innovation adaptation and evolution. We (europeans) evolve the fastest because we minimize the personal, interpersonal, social, political, and external hazards of falsehoods, each of which seeks to avoid the cost of stress required by continuous competition, innovation, adaptation, limited to reciprocal, truthful, and productive means.

    THE SUPPRESSION OF PARASITISM 4 – Man conducts parasitism by violence, theft, fraud, fraud by obscurantism, fraud by moralizing, fraud by omission, externality, free riding, privatization of commons, socialization of losses, conspiracy, conversion, immigration, conquest, war and genocide. 3 – Man must act to preserve and extend cooperation by the suppression of parasitism without which parasitism creates the disincentive to cooperate, and therefore decreases the disproportionate rewards of acquisition through cooperation. 5 – Man suppresses parasitism by threats of interpersonal violence, promises of interpersonal violence, interpersonal violence, interpersonal ostracization from cooperation, organized ostracization via norms and commerce, when he must by remuneration, and when he can by organized violence in law and war. 7 – Man suppresses parasitism by threats of interpersonal violencepromises of interpersonal violence, use of interpersonal violence, interpersonal ostracisation from cooperation, organized ostracisation via norms and commerce, when he must by remuneration, and when he can by organized violence in law and war.

    • If we define Moral Intuitions as the reactions we feel in response to our thoughts and actions and those of others.
    • If we define Normative Morality as the reactions we feel given for methods of decidability given some set of assumptions.
    • If we define philosophy (positive and literary) as the search for methods of decidability within a domain of preference and;
    • If we define truth (negative and descriptive) as the search for methods of decidability across all domains regardless of preference.

    Then:

    • We find that personal moral intuition is the product of our genes, and our experiential development. And it varies greatly from individual to individual.
    • We find that existing normative morality is the product of evolutionary accident and we learn it through experience and observation – although it does vary a little from individual to individual within groups, and varies widely between groups.

    You do not break my heart. We pay you to pollute your country instead of ours, and give you manufacturing to raise you out of ignorance and poverty – or maybe you don’t understand economics well enough to know how to account for costs or understand grand strategy. 😉
