The only reason to ‘go silent’ is exhaustion with young males desperate for demonstrated competency in something, anything, to overcome their incompetence and failure in life.

When I ask it to explain my definitino of demonstrated interests it overgeneralizes rather than providing the correct definitions, but those overgeneralizations are not false.

  • “How do you determine when a person has passed the threshold.”– TLDR; “evidence

–“How do you determine when a person has passed the threshold.”–
TLDR; “evidence of demonstrated behavior in linguistic expression in uncontrived circumstances.”
I work in a field that is somewhat difficult to understand if you’re unfamiliar with it, but at the foundations of it, the simple version is that the language one uses, especially in expression of demonstrated preference, in ordinary circumstances, provides insight into the working of one’s mind and brain, if one understands a few concepts that are uncommonly understood: sex differences in cognition, the spectrum of explanation (descriptive grammars), and the spectrum of means of lying (deceptive grammars). In order to solve the problem of testimonial truth (truth proper), I had to ‘science’ language and especially lying, which led to sex differences in cognition – and all differences originate in sex differences.
So in economics we explain the difference between “imagined, reported, and demonstrated behavior”. Demonstrated behavior is empirical, everything else is not, and this is why most social science is nonsense other than behavioral economics.
So if we look at human behavior on the terms I’ve described above and we look at the behavior demonstrated by speech, with a rather trivial number of words we can tell a great deal about you (facebook can profile you within about one hundred likes for example), and if we have as little as a few thousand words, we can determine almost everything about your thought processes, your biases, values, knowledge, class, age, and sex that is relevant in relation to others.
With more experience we can, as any psychologist or psychiatrist can, explain your behavior by reducing it to the primary causes of the variation of your behavior from some standard or other. (And we can probably do better than they can.). They are worried about how to fix you. We are only concerned in explaining you.
So there is an intersection here between linguistics (“Grammars”), computational linguistics (usage), behavioral econ, neuroscience, and genetics that provides us this understanding.

    (Diary, Humor)
Have you ever had a message from a high school girl (now woman) that you only vaguely remember, and who never (at least clearly) demonstrated any interest?
I mean, I consider myself a nerd with just enough luck to win enough of the attractiveness lottery, and had been taught good manners, that girls paid me any attention at all.
So when you see terms like ‘crush worthy’, ‘dreamy’, ‘funny’, you ask yourself “I know I was clueless, but I considered myself a nerd, an aspie, and was lucky I had the girlfriends I did have. So how could I be that oblivious to girls who were interested?”
I mean, I could have married at least four of the girls I went to school with, one who was a neighbor who would sneak out of her house to visit me with regularity – and I know at least those girls would have been happy to do so. Partly because a few years later they said so.
But… cluelessness is what it is.
Honestly, all I ever thought of at that age was ‘getting out of small town America, college, business, money, power’. Of course, I was obsessed, usually physically, with the girls I was interested in. But I wasn’t thinking of marriage material. Just the opposite. My mother was relentless in that ‘girls will try to trap you and then your life is over’.
Now, oddly enough three of those women have died, and none of them have had anything near the quality of life that I have. And some part of me feels guilty for that. Which I know is odd. I have the weird predilection that everything I know of is my responsibility. 😉
So, can we get a do-over with life? lol. I mean it’s kind of unfair that it takes you to almost fifty before you understand the world well enough to know what you could have done better. 😉
    Hey, God? Are you listening?
Do-overs for everyone around the table?

    Cheers

Why do you feel capable of making those assertions? What has convinced you that despite your lack of demonstrated achievement you should hold any opinion other than an open mind that seeks to understand rather than to claim competency sufficient to disagree?

The framework I’m using is first principles, meaning the irreducible first causes that originate all variations in human beings. I can and have (repeatedly) discussed them here and elsewhere.

There are only a handful of those dimensions that humans vary by. After that it’s just intelligence and exposure to ideisyncratic experience.

In fact we can distinguish the sexes in written or spoken words with an absurdly small number of words, and profile a personality with no more than a few hundred.

All words are measurements. Every one of those measurements consists of at least six or seven dimensions of other measurements. Combining them together tells us everything significant about those dimensions necessary to categories your biases whether sex, moral, age, culture, religion and much more.

The field is called computational linguistics.

    Cheers

The problem is distinguishing people like you and the others who are highly skilled from those who are not, when the only possible demonstration is evidence of the transformation of the state of clients. Maybe that’s the way. Unfortunately when you want to develop a measure of something (professional title), you need to develop that which measures it. And the whole ‘jump through years of training’ has failed the industry, so just as you should be able to practice law if you can pass the bar, there must be some test for certification (validation) of some person’s ability. I mean, most therapists and counselors, are actually doing more infantilzing harm than good. If we fixed that criteria, then that whole side of the industry would rebel.
FWIW: you can almost always tell by the rate the person charges. Good people are expensive. And they are expensive because they have achieved word of mouth revenue streams (reputation).], or produced other evidence (Your books, your methodology, and your posts serve as exceptional advertising.)
