Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) is looking pretty sketchy – they were Evergrande’s auditor, and it turns out Evergrande ($330B) was a greater Ponzi scheme than Bernie Madoff ($65B) and Enron ($84.2B) by a wide margin. The CCP is not happy.
But…
—“It’s important to note that China does not comply with GAAP. They have their own ‘China GAAP” method with stark differences in how they account for assets. So, PW may be off the hook if they were complying to “China GAAP”. GAAP is where it is through many decades of closing loopholes and ensuring investors have the best info available. China doesn’t want those loopholes closed at this time so these issues are being taken advantage of.”—
So…
If the behavior is widespread, it’s trillions and as big as the Global Financial Crisis of ’08.
Cheers

Upstate suffered from the brain drain in the late 60’s escalating rapidly with the oil crisis in the 70s. There was a real ‘get outta dodge’ feeling. I think by the 80’s resignation had set in. And Xerox and Kodak were vaporized. So between the urban problems of rochester (blacks) the dissipation of the skilled tech labor, and the movement of technology from boston to san francisco, there is nothing left but agriculture.

Yes I will agree that upstate ny is unremarkable. However, if the immigration problem hadn’t hit buffalo and the black problem hit Rochester, and our early attempts to ‘kick nyc out of the state’ had succeeded things might have been different.

NYC is being forced into a transient economy where there are no families just single and childless until they rotate out of the city to areas where raising children is affordable. That leaves only the immigrants and unemployable underclass lowinvestment parents that are a drain on the productive people. However, this trategy means that businesses will continue to exit. And (my) the other strategy is the movement of the financial sector out of NYC. Which is almost certain to happen. And if we are able to enact my suggested constitutional and policy reforms the financial sector in NYC wll be vaporized and distributed around the country.

@radiofreenw:
Question: What is the difference between how the french practice national socialism and are lionized and how german national socialism is demonized? The french are the most nationalist, autarkic and self interested polity in europe and they hide behind ‘liberty fraternity’ while undermining the sovereignty of every other nation in Europe.
I see the spectrum of:
|Political Organization|: Distributed: American Classical Liberalism <> British Classical Liberalism <> French (national) Socialism <> German National Socialism <> Italian National Fascism <> Leninism (Russian Imperial Socialism) <> Chinese Imperial Socialism : Centralized.
…as little more than the geographic distance between the host polity and the proximity to Russia, the Middle East, and Asia.
As such, geographic distance lowers risk, and geographic proximity increases risk.
In other words, isn’t this spectrum simply a practical rtional response to differences in geography and demographics and state of development?
Cheers
Curt.

–“Curt: Q: (Assertion) Those at the top of their careers cannot grasp the equilibration of western technology across the world and the restoration of the conflict of civilizations as it happens”–
I think everyone grasps it, but incentives must change before behavior changes, so the three step process is 1) change in the world 2) propagating eventually to changes in incentives 3) eventually propagating to changes in behavior 4) and generally these changes only occur with generational changes.

Zeihan is correct.
France sought natalism (reproduction), autarky and nationalism (soft national socialism) and didn’t engage in the global order of free trade. Instead focusing on maintaining their colonies in Africa and the resources and profits extracted from them.
Germany did the opposite. So combine german population contraction with the end of world trade, and Germany is screwed and France – although losing its colonies to Russia at the moment – will be the strong force in Europe.
