[P]roperty rights are a means of cooperation between peers. Every means of acquiring them, other than organized violence, is an insipid appeal, an act of fraud, an involuntary transfer, from those who pay the cost of property rights by the preparation for, and threat of violence, by those who would obtain property rights at a discount. Enfranchisement was always how one earned property rights. Thats because they can’t be earned any other way. The weak, the lazy, the deceitful, all want property rights at a discount. Now, one could argue, that it is possible to PAY people in some way, to extend to you property rights. To HIRE your property rights. And we might argue that, that is, in part, what we use taxes for – but only if I get property rights in return. If I don’t get them, then I’ve given up my violence – meaning my opportunity to use violence for self interest instead of property rights for self interest – for free. It’s theft. Humor: Rothbard was a scam artist. 🙂
YOU WANT A LIBERTARIAN GEM FOR TODAY?
The ethics of competition. From another piece I’ve been writing.
“Competition” itself, as we use the term, is the normative sanction of external involuntary transfer by an artificial, counter-intuitive, set of rules we call the market, consisting of voluntary transfer of goods and services, by fully informed consensual exchange, and insured as fully informed and consensual by warranty, at the cost of opportunity and investment to other producers of similar goods, in an effort to coerce producers to innovate in their use of resources, to produce goods for all at lower price, or higher quality, in an effort to produce goods and services at the lowest cost and highest quality for all consumers participating in that set of normative rules that comprise that market, and which we in turn call ‘a society’.

SYMMETRY
WARRANTY
EXTERNALITY
Bring libertarian ethics out of Rothbard’s ghetto and back to the aristocracy whence it came.
Voluntary exchange isn’t enough. Its ghetto liberty. Aristocracy requires symmetry warranty, and prohibition on externality.
Without these three ethical properties, voluntary exchange alone is a license to commit fraud.

PEOPLE YOU LOVE
I love a lot of people. And I’m lucky enough to have a lot of friends.
But there are a few people who are very special. And with whom any fragment of time no matter how small or under what circumstance, enriches your life.
Because these people share with you certain aesthetics. Certain appreciations. Certain metaphysics: the frames that we each use to interpret the world.
They are people with whom you can carry out a conversation with full confidence that you are fully understood.
No matter how much time separates you, the first second is contiguous with the last.
To those people. To that person. I would thank you for the luxury that such friendship provides. It is perhaps the most precious thing in the world. The gift of your self: the sharing of moments. And moments that are rare. And rare because only you can provide them.
Thank you.
If souls exist, you are one if the few things that fill mine.

BANKING: CREDIT UNIONS ARE GOOD. BIG BANKS ARE BAD. AND WHY
Banking is a means of allowing people with disparate knowledge, means, goals to cooperate by concentrating their capital and cross-insuring each other. Banking is a GOOD BUSINESS for society and society as we understand it is not possible without banking.
Now, when you get service charges, this is just charging you for the costs you put onto the bank. THis is a GOOD IDEA because otherwise people who do a lot of bank work force people who don’t to pay all oft of costs. That would be an involuntary transfer. That’s bad. It’s stealing.
The problem occurrs when the state starts putting funny money into banks and creating a ‘hazard’ by doing so. They allow banks to make risky loans. and those risky loans increase consumption at the expense of creating a fragile economy.
The argument that Keynesians make, is that we get more good out of that fragility than we do bad.
And that’s not a truth. It’s a matter of preference.
And the people who would prefer not to have booms and busts that are caused by the government, because they take risks because the cost of money is cheap, and the pricing information that they see around them is distorted. Then the rug is pulled under them by the fragility and it all comes crashing down into a recession and depression.
Credit unions are good things.
Use them.
Big banks are for conducting war. That’s why we have them. thats where they came from. that’s what they do.

DIVERSITY IS A “BAD”
We have known for some time now that diversity produces negative consequences.
Those consequences are most visible in the reluctance by individuals to contribute to the commons: taxes, redistribution, and even maintenance of common areas. And of course both the willingness and ability to enforce morals and norms.
In the west we have lost the battle for the sacrifice that is necessary for the nuclear family. Our immigrants are accelerating that abandonment and returning maintaining their inbreeding, extended family traditions if paternalistic, and serial marriage if maternalistic. We have lost our anglo saxon rights to freedom along with our constitution. We have lost our obligation to charity and devotion to the commons in the form if voluntary organizations that provided both the moral impetative and institutional framework for our previous civil society. We have lost our right to juridical defense for all regulatory and much legislative law. We have lost the primacy of our common and natural laws. And we have lost our religion and mythology. As well as our unique western identity. In economic terms, we have lost most of the social capital that makes the high trust society possible.
There is some debate that over the medium term the economic benefit of immigration may mask those negative consequences.
But why does diversity create bads?
Because diversity creates a competition of norms and signals. And humans stop paying for norms when their payments are stolen by those with competing norms and signals.
What does that mean?
Traditions and norms matter. They matter because they are prescriptions for an order, or portfolio of types of property. It is not so much that people will forget certain norms and the knowledge that they contain. But that they will refuse to pay for the commons that we call norms, if they find them either bad investments or more commonly A TAX THAT THEY PAY, but which OTHERS CHEAT AND THEREFORE ESCAPE PAYING.
Norms are paid when they are observed. They bear a cost. Every single time. Morals bear a cost. A high one. Every time they are observed.
We humans abhor cheating. And competing sets of norms, especially those that demand less discipline, are licenses to cheat and steal.
Humans will not reward cheaters. In fact they will redouble their efforts to punish them. And in the case of norms, they will fail to pay for the commons. At least they will fail to pay when the value of signaling conformity drops.
And this leads us to the other bit of research: that the purpose of progressive promotion of diversity is just signaling that is available cheaply with little effort.
In other words: the desire for diversity is status seeking.
So some of us signal by our production. Some of us by consumption. And liberals by giving away other people’s money.
Which I find fascinating.
