    Protestants practice the Absolute Nuclear Family and the High Trust Society. In the Protestant (northern european) social model, high trust is extended to non-family members. In the catholic countries, they practice the extended family model, and high trust is retained for use only by family members, and not extended to ‘everyone you meet’.

    This explains the size of statism, and the authoritarianism in France, versus the libertarianism and rate of entrepreneurship in Anglo countries. The lower the trust in your polity, the more demand there is for authority to organize society, organize production and prevent conflicts. The more trust in your society, the less need demand (or need) there is for the authoritarian organization of society and production. This explains the difference between anglo high trust absolute nuclear, and french lower-trust extended families.

    Furthermore, as the original question positions, the high trust polity means that it is easier to take advantage of that trust and abuse it. So anglos demonstrate higher Altruistic Punishment of offenders, whereas the French do not.

    To French, Anglos appear to be ‘stupid’ and ‘dishonestly friendly’. And treat family members badly To anglos, the French appear to be ill mannered, if not outright rude, coddle laziness in the family; and the government appears to be predatory and corrupt. (In Quebec, it is possibly true.)

    SOME INTERESTING DATA

    1) In negotiations, who are the least hostile people in the world? Americans, Anglo-Canadians, and Germans. Who are the most hostile people in the world: the French. (The study counts the use of certain categories of words).

    2) In Canada, the Anglo immigrants came largely from the lower middle and middle classes. The French citizens of Quebec came disproportionately from the lower classes. This difference in classes provides greater insight into the different cultures than background alone.

Aristocratic Egalitarianism consists of a voluntary contract for a preference, exclusive of those who disagree with your preference. Aristocracy constructs the virtual family by extending the high trust of in-group members, to all with whom you wold voluntarily exchange insurance for the defense of property rights, and the denial of power to any and all, of power over any and all.

    The less people compete for status as consumers, the more they compete for status by other means. While competing for status increases consumption which decreases prices and increases employment, the only reason we need increase employment and decrease prices is because we are engaging in increases in consumer production but not increases in innovation. In other words, there are two kinds of productivity increases: the kind that comes from consumption (population increases) and the kind that comes from innovation (regardless of population increases). So what this means is that we are working very hard to get dumber and more numerous?

    I don’t take the evolution of intellectual history all that seriously because I see it as reactionary – a reaction to changes in economic status. An attempt to reorder our values in response to the evolution of our conditions. As such I see the world history as a record of the evolution of institutional technologies in which philosophy and religion are yet another technology in the set of available institutions.

    Whereas myths, traditions and norms are taught to us environmentally, religion and philosophy are taught to us pedagogically, and then become part of our myths, traditions and norms, over time – assuming that they succeed in propagating. Although, whether they succeed in propagating (a short term advantage) and how they impact our cultures (long term consequences) are often very different things.

    Nietzsche is, like most philosophers, and particularly pre-analytic philosophers, is a tough read for a scientist lacking empathy with norms and perceptions of the time. But the more I understand in my scientific terms, the more right he was in his narrative terms.

    He understood.

    We need our aristocracy. Our excellence. Our individualism. Our peerage. Our brotherhood of property. That is the cause of our success.

    Universalism is nothing but a war against us.

    If I am correct, then dialectical materialism is (as Kant earlier suggested of dialectic), merely a deceptive obscurantism.

    But it serves as confirmation of cosmopolitan low trust ethics: fidelity (search for consent); and unlike aristocratic (empirical) ethics, it has nothing to do with the discovery of truth.

    In the European anglo empirical model, we seek the truth and commit fidelity to it. In the cosmopolitan model we seek consent and fidelity regardless if truth.
