Locke’s Tabula Rasa (inequality) is the Opposite of the NeoMarxist/Postmodern Tabula Rasa (equality).

Don’t blame lock. Blame the left. They lie about everything for a living. 😉 https://twitter.com/curtdoolittle/status/1715788938747535801

  • While you are usually spot on, and I understand where you are coming from, there

While you are usually spot on, and I understand where you are coming from, there is a vast difference in Locke’s concept and the ‘postwar’ neo-marxist/postmodern concept of Tabula Rasa. As always the left attempts to adopt and abuse (reframe) terms to suit their purposes in order to create a false sense of legitimacy.

So you are incorrectly criticizing Locke instead of the progressive/neoMarxist abuse of Locke’s term (just as they have abused the term ‘liberal’ suc that we must use the term “classical liberal” to disambiguate.

John Locke’s concept of “tabula rasa” and the post-war Neo-Marxist notion of a “blank slate” as equal in ability serve different philosophical and ideological ends, even if they might appear superficially similar.

Here are some of the key distinctions:

Locke’s Tabula Rasa: Empirical Foundations Source of Knowledge: Locke’s idea of “tabula rasa” is principally concerned with epistemology, or the study of knowledge. According to Locke, all human knowledge comes from experience, and the mind at birth is like a blank slate upon which experience writes.

Individualism and Property: Locke used this concept to argue for individual rights and private property, stating that since individuals acquire knowledge through their experiences and labor, they have rights to their own bodies and the fruits of their labor.

Educational Implications: Locke saw educational and environmental factors as important but did not necessarily argue that everyone would turn out the same under the same conditions. His emphasis was on the potential for rationality and moral agency in all individuals, rather than on equal outcomes.

Not a Statement on Equality of Ability: Locke’s idea does not inherently argue for an innate equality of abilities among humans, but rather an equality of moral worth and potential for knowledge acquisition.

Neo-Marxist Blank Slate: Ideological and Social Objectives:

Social and Economic Equality: The post-war Neo-Marxist notion of the “blank slate” often serves an ideological purpose aimed at supporting social, economic, and political equality. It argues not just for equal moral worth, but for the idea that differences in outcome are the result of social constructs and conditioning rather than innate differences.

Critique of Capitalism: This concept often serves to critique the capitalist system, which Neo-Marxists argue perpetuates inequalities. The idea of humans as blank slates who are equal in ability supports the notion that inequalities are not just unfortunate but unjust, and thus require systemic change.

Collectivism Over Individualism: Unlike Locke, who places emphasis on the individual’s rights and labor, the Neo-Marxist view leans towards collectivism and argues that societal structures play a decisive role in shaping individual outcomes.

Controversial Science: While Locke’s views were very much in line with the science of his time, the Neo-Marxist notion of a blank slate as equal in ability has been criticized for potentially ignoring or underplaying biological factors, including genetics, that could contribute to differences in individual abilities.

    Summary
In summary, while both concepts might appear to start from a similar premise that humans are born without innate ideas or social roles, their implications and applications diverge significantly.

Locke’s “tabula rasa” serves as a foundation for individual rights and empirical inquiry into human understanding, whereas the Neo-Marxist concept is often employed towards ideological ends advocating for systemic social change to achieve equality of outcome.

    (a) moneychangers
    (b) wealthy merchants
    (c) nobility

Why? they (really) believed the common people were just another form of domesticated animal. And if you knew much about their behavior, you’d understand their position.

Jesus was trying to change the behavior of the common people so that it was compatible with european aristocratic civilization and the wealth that civilization brought with it through peace, order, and law.

Jesus’ teachings are as good as those of buddha or socrates. Churchianity is every bit as ridicuoous as the other abrahamic religions. But if that’s what it takes to get the message across to the peasants women and slaves, (and children) then that’s what it takes.

Not really true. all groups scale and decline together. Relative positions remain the same. We have known this for decades.

I really don’t grasp why people just don’t read the top works in the field instead of assuming they have any idea what they’re talking about.

These *single year* *new hires* now often represent >10% of corporate hires each year for many of these firms.

    MY COMMENTS:

So, rounding to the nearest big number that’s 30K H1Bs.
And 72.6% of H1B visas are issued to Indian nationals.

There are 2.19M (soon 3M) CS related jobs in the USA, with (?) an average age of about 40.

What we see is indians replacing americans (yes really). Are indians better educated (we are pulling from americans, and in particular european americans). In fact, we are seeing young immigrants replace established workers at lower salaries in many fields.

    POLITICAL JUSTIFICATION
The progressive narrative is that these are s*** jobs that no American man would want anyway.

The “conservative” narrative is that no American is skilled enough to fill them.

    WHY?
    (first, the data is cr*p)

    My data:
The number of CS GRADS from what I can find is about 60,000 for 2021.
The number of CS JOB openings, from what I can find 125,000 computer science
These are the numbers I would expect.

Computer-related jobs are larger in number than computer science jobs so the number is bigger. But even then, only approximately 3.04% of the total U.S. civilian labor force was employed in computer-related roles as of the most recent data available.

Given that whether 2% or 3% it’s a fraction of the work force, you’d think it wouldn’t matter. However, these jobs pay a lot more than most other jobs.

    DEMOGRAPHICS
    India
India has 1.3+B People. (I think it’s replaced china now as the largest population – because we’re pretty sure chinese numbers are overcounted). While the IQ is only 81, and only 1% of the population has an IQ over 115 (minimum theoretical college STEM ability), that’s 14.3M people to draw from.
Average Age in India? 29. Young.

    USA
The USA white (meaning exclusively of european descent) is only 56% of 330M or 184M. While this number should represent the exclusively european it’s still overstated, certainly by . The number is closer to 51-52%) The most common age of whites in U.S. is 58. For minorities, it’s 27.
So again, with a 115 minimum theroetical for STEM ability that’s 19% of the population of 184M is 35M. More than twice the available Indian population.
Howeer, if you want a ticket to wealth in india, you have a narrower set of choices than an american, who may choose from any number of careers by preference rather than maximum income.

    BIRTHS
    “White” 53% (overstated) 1.9M,
    Black 14%, .6M
    Hispanic 24%, .8M
    Asian 6% .2M

    IMMIGRANT POPULATION
This number is bogus. It does not account for the 16M+ Illegals in the USA at present:
–“There were a record 44.8 million immigrants living in the U.S. in 2018, making up 13.7% of the nation’s population. This represents a more than fourfold increase since 1960, when 9.7 million immigrants lived in the U.S., accounting for 5.4% of the total U.S. population.”–
So we have 60M immigrants against a white population of 180M.

    THEREFORE?
We don’t have a shortage of people. We have a shortage of people wanting to sit in a cubicle and write code – and that’s very likely because (women in education) we lack the rigor in education necessary to train (especially boys) students for CS related work. (b) immigration is suppressing wages that would provide the incentives, because those jobs are paying less (59k) than they would if the shortage was greater, salaries were highter, and demand for talent was higher. Truth is that CS is not hard at all for the vast majority of jobs out there. We taunt Google and FB etc, but what those companies do isn’t rocket science at all. It’s closer to software plubming.

    Search data is unhelpful:
“Data from 2017 recorded the number of computer science US graduates was less than 50,000. This is tragic considering that the same year there were more than 500,000 job openings. (This number is false, becaues it surveys help wnted ads which are multiples of the actual jobs.

“According to How Many Computer Science Graduates Each Year, the roughly 65,000 CS graduates in the U.S. in 2015 represented only about 10% of all STEM graduates.”

“According to New Intel – How Many Software Engineers Are There in 2023? – there are less than 30,000 computer science students who graduate each year.”

    ON GENERATIONS AND GENX
I’m technically Gen Jones (Between Boomers and GenX) but I have a greater affinity for GenX. My gen are a little too ‘Wall Street’ and GenX is a little more ‘Breakfast Club’. Prefer the Breakfast club crowd. And culturally I’m definitely more attuned to GenX experience (Autism? must’ve matured late. 😉 ) Only bad thing about GenX is the parents of Milennials and GenZ because of working mothers and the latchkey kid effect. Cable was originally ok, but between computer games, cell phones, the internet, bad social media and overprotective absent moms, … not good.

    Gen Jones
“They were children during Watergate, the oil crisis, and stagflation, and were young adults when HIV/AIDS became a worldwide threat in the 1980s. Unlike leading-edge boomers, most of Generation Jones did not grow up with World War II veterans as fathers, and, as they reached adulthood, there was no compulsory military service and no defining political cause.” (We chose biz. Gates, Jobs, etc)

    Narrative:
I gotta tell ya. That I dunno what the boomers are talking about because everything I remembrer from the Kennedy assasination to the race riots to the weekly marxist bombings, to vietnam, to watergate, to the oil crisis, to carter’s screw up with the Iranian hostages – it was a SH**T time to be alive. But… the difference is we still had social life, we were still fit (not fat), had hair bands, concerts, we had lots of s*x in cars, couldn’t catch a dangerous STD, and all we had was beer and pot. When I got into college the Coke thing started and it seemed like people were dropping out of college like flies because of it. Then the AIDS thing happend and the world changed. 😉

You can’t really imagine how much everything changed from star was to the Regan recovery. It was like rebirth.

WHAT JUMPS OUT IN DONORS TO WOKE PARTIES?

    Richard;

–“What jumps out to me in these figures is not only how left leaning large institutions are, but how the same is true for most professions.”– Richard Hanania

    WHAT JUMPS OUT?
What jumps out at me is insulation from the market.
Luxury Beliefs and Virtue Signaling are both possible and endemic, and match Veblen’s prediction of the wealth effect. “The reason to become educated is to escape the market (and work).”

    DIFFERENCES
    – Conservatives are directly participating in the market. The business owners across the variety of self employed of all scales directly interact with the market.
This means they are personally responsible for capital.
    -versus-
    – The government
    – The big industries
    – The academy and education
    – The professions and white collar office workers
    – Most women
All are insulated from the market by scale (or husbands).
This means they are personally not responsible for capital.
Which means the are not responsible for risk.

What separates urban and suburban-rural voters?
Responsibility for, and capacity for resonsibilty for capital.
Cities generate demand for authority in lieu of responsibility and territories generate remand for responsibilty in lieu of authority.

Why? *Asymmetry of Risk* and *Asymmetry of Responsibility*”

If taxes were allocated by symmetry of risk then the ‘red’ group wouldn’t pay any at all. (In fact, it makes no sense that we tax any of the tradesmen in the country at all. They only contribute 3% to total taxation, and they burn their bodies by their late forties. (Yes our organization proposes this particular tax change.)

What are the behavioral differences between males and females? Asymmetry of tolerance for risk, and therefore asymmetry of responsibilty for self, private, and common.

We do not have a Cultural Problem. We have a political problem because we have an incentive problem. We have an incentive problem between urban cities and suburban rural areas. And we have an inescapable problem of women’s voting in favor of irresponsibilities, and men voting infavor of responsibilities.

The only reason anything moves left, whether education, universities, workblace behavior, political organization, or economic performance, is because women everywhere and always vote for advancing irresponsibilty – despite the fact that the reason for the west’s success (for ‘whiteness’) is the maximization of individual responsibilty – including ‘truth before face’ which woen simply cannot bear. If you pull women from the voting pool everything is always RED except for the coastal immigrant cities whose populations have natural anti-responsibilty incentives.

In other words, we largely have a ‘women problem’ that can be solved by giving women a separate lower house of government. And restoring the Senate as a proxy for the governor and the legislature of the states.

    Understand Our Govt Step 1
This would preserve empirical Concurrency(in agreement) – we live in a concurrent republic not a democratic one under the Common law’s empirical Commonality (in disagreement) – not sure why I have to teach this every day. The purpose of concurrency to establish legitimacy (settlement) ACROSS regions, classes (and now sexes). So that the rights of minorities are protected against the malincentives of the majority -thereby preventing majority tyranny.

    Understand Our Govt Step 2
The USG is a Market for Exchanges Between Classes And Regions – it is for debate on invstments and trades, not rule. The states rule and the people are sovereign. In europe under the napoleonic code instead of the common law, Governments rule, the government is sovereign, and the people are subjects.

Again. No idea why I have to teach what should be crayon level concepts to the american and european peoples every day – but then I do. Because people are evil and seek power over others so that they don’t have to work, produce, and engage in reciprocal trade. And they will like like the dickens to do so.

    Cheers
