    What Jesus did was discover a means by which women, slaves, serfs, and the poor could ‘fit’ into the ‘heroism’ of European civilization by acting virtuously in care, even if they could not be virtuous in commerce, government or combat. He discovered a way for the poor to be ‘European’.
