Having Survived the 80’s AI winter myself, discovering the sequence principle, need for neuromorphic hardware, the capital cost of GAI, and the false promise of AI for years, #ChatGPT has done as much for reversing that winter, funding that capital as educating populi.

Ergo, (a) we are just at the beginning (b) we percieve solving 80% of the problem = the same amount of work, when the final 20% of the AI problem (errors, ethics) is orders of magnitude more work. So far GPT is a recursive search engine. Not intelligence. But we can get there.

So the ‘universal app’ it’s JUST as disruptive a tech as spacex was to govt launches, as tesla has been to auto manufacturing, as starlink is going to be to telcos, as Boring might be to transportation, and certainly as the ‘everything app’ would be to software platforms.

Of these problems in the universal app, we’ve solved the user interface, the backend logic, the storage systems. But the work to solve ‘truth detection’ was the hard problem. We’ve only just completed that research sufficiently to begin implementing it in code.

So what happens when a search algorithm gives you what you want without an opportunity to advertise, because advertising would (does) skew results? I answered this back in 2006. Disruption of the search market, just as severe as when search replaced yellow pages.
