    LOVE

So times you fall in love at first sight. I have fairly recently. Then you dismiss it as reproductive impulse. Then you confirm it through experience. And then the attraction sticks with you.

Unfortunately there are things I just don’t believe in: interfering with a marriage. Especially when the man does his duty for his family.

Even if he is not as able or successful. If he does his selfless duty I respect him. And it offends me to interfere.

I am just not wired like that. I can’t really understand people who are.

Now, assuming the woman takes action to separate that is a different thing. But I have enough of marley’s chains on my conscience. I don’t need that one.

APPARENTLY THEY DON’T TEACH ANY KIND OF LOGIC TO PHYSICS PROFESSORS ANY LONGER?

—“Yes. I hope a member of a SWAT team will not assume that a weekend spent learning physics or astronomy would let them walk in front of my students and teach them astronomy or physics; I’ll do them the same credit of assuming that a weekend spent learning how to handle a gun would make me nearly as good as a SWAT team member. (Or even ‘capable of making the situation safer’.) — Becca Stareyes

Any military officer will assure you that gun safety and use is teachable even to imbeciles in just a few lessons.

Else we would not be able to field armies.

Mastery of any abstract reasoning presents a high barrier to entry. Competence with a firearm can be achieved with an IQ of 80. And for what it’s worth the target iq of police officers is 107 – barley sufficient for junior college work.

As a philosopher I will flip the argument around and suggest that it is difficult to imagine one can both fully grasp the standard model on the one hand and field such a sophomoric fallacy on the other.

    Curt.

    Curt Doolittle

You, by virtue of you occupation create a dense gathering of people that exposes them to risk but which you profit from. Since you can learn to be sufficiently competent with a handgun in just a few lessons, failing to do it is just an excuse not to take responsibility for the defence of the citizenry. As such it is hard to argue that you reap the extraordinary rewards of this society without paying the only cost of enfranchisement: it’s defense.

Cowardice is merely taking an unearned discount.

    That’s all it is.

    Free riding.

SURRENDER. OR GUILTY IN DEFENSE BE THUS DESTROYED.

—“Take pity of your town and of your people,

    Whiles yet my soldiers are in my command;

Whiles yet the cool and temperate wind of grace

O’erblows the filthy and contagious clouds

Of heady murder, spoil and villany.

If not, why, in a moment look to see

The blind and bloody soldier with foul hand

    Defile the locks of your shrill-shrieking daughters;

Your fathers taken by the silver beards,

And their most reverend heads dash’d to the walls,

Your naked infants spitted upon pikes,

Whiles the mad mothers with their howls confused

Do break the clouds, as did the wives of Jewry

    At Herod’s bloody-hunting slaughtermen.

What say you? will you yield, and this avoid,

Or, guilty in defence, be thus destroy’d?”—

No mercy. Rule of law or heady murder.

    Welcome to the revolution.

I just thought of a curated advertising model that would work within Oversing at some point in its distant future. I am surprised no one has done it yet. Maybe they have tried and it’s not effective enough for consumer products. Interesting.

Also, I’ve been against advertising in the FB and google model. But you know, I’m totally in favor of catalog and magazine subscriptions that don’t cost anything. In other words, if the user wants to subscribe to a ‘page’ sponsored by a company then that’s very different from spamming users.

Anyway. Just ruminating. (Kirill is fixing bugs. I am testing. We are drinking coffee and Borjomi. It’s wet and cold outside. )

“…now the economists win the Nobel for explaining to their fellow economists something that the general public has always known, e.g.:

1 – Politicians care about themselves (Buchanan).

2 – Don’t put all your eggs in one basket (Markowitz, Miller, and Sharpe).

3 – You can’t fool all of the people all of the time (Lucas).

4 – Some people know more than others (Akerlof, Spence, Stiglitz).”
