War is a necessary product of the commons that creates ones ability to determine the distribution and limits of property rights.

What has happened to the people who cannot enforce property rights because they are incompetent at the production of war?

The extinct. The assimilated. The gypsies and Jews nearly assimilated or extinct.

Wishful thinking is for women. They are weak by nature. Men are only weak by choice.

So physical and credit assets are of momentum price only, but liquidation value. Companies last a decade rather than a generation. Production depends on distributed networks that are efficient but fragile.

And why? Antiquarian accounting and law, and a federal reserve that uses credit as gasoline that can start the hardwood fire to a point where the only thing burning is gasoline.

I’d like to clarify that accounting has attempted to modernise at least twice in the twentieth century. But I sufficiently, and law has not helped.

The fallacy of the evenly rotating economy pervades lending, just as the fallacy of stable price.

The value of assets in the industrial era , and in the contemporary era has inverted. Today IP has value but almost all assets other than land are never with more than liquidation value.

Market brand has far more value than any leveragable assets do. But we can’t borrow against that brand value other than as demonstrated by cash flow.

It’s one thing to meet regulatory compliance. It’s another to have an accurate inventory of your assets.

For all intents and purposes our balance sheets are as ridiculous as congressional accounting office reports on the economy and treasury.

    Q&A how is your health?

Eh. I have mostly recovered my sleep debt. Mostly recovered from the stress. I can’t shake the last bit of flu from my lungs. But I’ve been working more than 12 hours a day this week and I feel pretty good.

Entirely focused on the business. Not writing anything. But that’s what duty calls. 😉

HOW TO KEEP BOOKS FOR MANAGEMENT FIRST RATHER THAN FOR GOVERNMENT FIRST.

You cannot get a CPA to keep good books no matter what you do. Best advice is to hire an MBA as your CFO. Then strong director or CPA to work for him. CPA’s worry about compliance first and business second, and MBA’s about information for the business first, and compliance as a sunk cost. MBA’s are right.

    OVERSING UPDATE

(mostly back on my feet again)

Roman and the guys are importing data and bug fixing at our first major client. The client says it’s going well. I’m certainly excited.

    Today

    1) My team is trying to understand the system so that we can add the new panels for ‘auctions of work’ so to speak, and searching for talent to do work. Right now you search primarily by skills and availability. But we want to create the option to search without concern for availability, and to show the profile first, and the schedule only if wanted. Why? Because freelancers and contractors are a major part of the creative and technology industries. And when you resource your staff you try to increase utilization (schedule driven) and when you resource contractors you have a larger pool of candidates to draw from that would make schedule driven user interface challenging.

    2) Moving us off of some ‘custom’ build code and onto contemporary build processes. I’ve wanted this for two years. Finally got it in just a few days of work.

    3) Trying to unwind the mixture of js/php/html/css that seems to have crept in some places (omg you gotta be kidding). We are also running into a terribly difficult problem optimizing the javascript. Our original design loaded only js that was needed. But today we need to optimize by condensing it. This is going to take quite a bit of incremental effort over the coming months.

    4) Someone has allowed another javascript bug that’s sent the browser into constant leaking.

    5) Me, I’m writing the project plan, the stories, working on minor presentation bugs, and adding the new financial entities to the product.

    Cheers

    (diary)

    More soul searching.

In Seattle, and in Boston, my reputation was a smart and ruthless one. I wanted to change that reputation twice. First when I met Allora, and secondly after my last major illness and I moved to Ukraine to ‘simplify’ my life. It worked with allora because we functioned as a unit, with her opinions regulating my aggressiveness.

But perhaps the leopard cannot change its spots. And I have been no happier trying to make others happy than I have been by simply seeking empirical ends regardless of whether people were happy or not.

I’ve usually told people that power always benefits you and kindness might. And that it’s very important not to treat people as if they have ill intentions, because you remove all incentive to have beneficial intentions, and increase the incentive to have predatory intentions.

If you are already damned, then there is no premium on predation.

So the best approach is to take the moral high ground at all times, and forgive human error, treating it as an opportunity to learn, and therefore preserving the incentive to cooperate rather than engage in predation.

Because really, people are very easy prey. Especially the ambitious and vain. We may have incrementally suppressed direct violence and substituted it with indirect violence, but violence is all around us in systemic ways even if it is not visible to us in physical ways.

Is there a reason why your cable/phone/internet/cell are so much higher than your water, gas, and power? Is there a reason we can implement catastrophic health care reforms at immeasurable cost, yet we cannot implement border controls, and fences at measurable cost? Of course not. These are easily inverted.

I felt the shift in my thinking today.

And perhaps it is just that I am finally over my illnesses and divorce.

Nietzsche uses foreign language but gives us the right advice.

Out of life’s school of war, that which does not kill us only serves to make us stronger. And the strong must not be bound by the limits of the weak.

Yet I understand that best way to defend against the weak, the best way to make use of them, is in the economy. Leaving arts, letters, and the creation of history to those with ability and will.
