    This is why people are opposed to inflation:

    1) Moral hazard – punishes people who save and live within their means

    2) Fixed Income Punishment – Harms those on fixed incomes who are impoverished by inflation.

    3) Business Risk Taking Impediments – planning becomes difficult because of price variability (this can be good and bad).

    4) Interest Rate Peaks – barrier to rates. Effectively inflation helps big companies with fixed capital costs, and hurts small businesses who need cheap access to capital. This is why Paul Krugman’s chart was effective in 1935 and is ineffective today.

  • Found out that I got a lawyer disbarred. It can actually happen. I’m surprised.

    Found out that I got a lawyer disbarred. It can actually happen. I’m surprised. It was years ago. I hadn’t followed the process. But at least in egregious circumstances the system works. (Think creative billing as in ‘the Firm’.) I took out the whole company, one person in jail. Lawyer disbarred. CEO had to forfeit all his assets. FWIW: deca-millionares are generally from the middle class, made their money in business and have a reputation for being honest.

    It’s pretty obvious: because it would undermine their entire philosophy. And no, there is no debate among researchers over the genetic, race and class composition of IQ. That debate is only conducted among the political class. Conservatives observe natural laws. Not ideology but natural law. Hierarchy is just letting the best people have the freedom to produce excellences for the rest of us.

    Why create another even more totalitarian bureaucracy that abuses our freedoms in europe to match the one in the USA?

    THe west is special because no one was unable to consolidate power, and had to rely upon the balance of powers, specialization and trade.

    China solidified, the muslims and ottomans solidified, the hindus solidified at least somewhat, and look what happened. The west, despite being poor and backward invented the industrial revolution TWICE. No one else invented it even once.

    The balance of power and freedom are more important to us and to humanity than efficiency and equality.

However, the country is heavily conservative, and where it is not conservative, it favors the republican economic program. It’s impressive that the libertarians have made so much progress. It’s unfortunate that it’s unlikely to make greater progress — without enfranchising conservatives on geopolitical strategy.
