OBSERVATIONS: WATER QUALITY.
I take showers so I don’t see the water in volume ever.
But I just noticed that the water is green. It’s not clear. It’s not tinted blue. It’s tinted green.
Now I suppose that’s copper. But the water isn’t potable here. And I suspect that’s why the soups all bother my stomach?
Yech.
You don’t have to budget much for utilities. But you do have to budget for drinking and cooking water.
I had a similar problem in Ottawa. So much sulphur in the water that I couldn’t drink it.
Growing up on an unspoiled snow fed lake had advantages.

FASHION : BLACK SHOES ONLY
I’m not sure why I didn’t notice before. But men’s shoes apparently only come in black.
Brown belts. Sure. Brown shoes apparently not.
Odd. Most of us with blonde to brown hair look better in brown. But we deem it casual. And it is harder to match separates in browns than blacks. And black monochrome looks good while brown monochrome does not.
Still. No brown shoes? Sigh.

SARTORIAL DOMINOS
We are in a mall. Veronika wants to buy shoes. In one store the boots women wear as a nearly universal uniform are lined neatly on the top shelf like dominos.
Veronika pulls one down. Puts it back up. Tips the one next to it. And the boots act like dominos. The entire shelf explodes and there are boots all over the floor.
I kept looking for Steve Martin.
In a reasonable country someone would have thought of a solution. But here they just scowl and put the dominos back in position.

CULTURAL OBSERVATIONS: DAILY MOTORCADE
every morning they shut down Sahaidichnoho street so that the presidential motorcade does not sit vulnerably in traffic.
Then six or seven cars pass in formation.
The people I talk to seem to think its a privilege. But the taxi drivers who have served in the military know the reason: the cheapest and easiest way to kill a politician is in a car with an RPG.
It’s my daily reminder that a government should fear its people. Not people fear their government.
And that politicians should not give them reason to.
