  • FB is a really wonderful venue for arguing with the interested and informed clas

    FB is a really wonderful venue for arguing with the interested and informed classes. It’s not a very good venue for very complicated ideas though.

    But if you want to try to figure out how to take very complicated ideas (like the immorality of ‘convenient’ platonism) then the only way to do it is through a lot of trial and error. And the “interested and informed” are an excellent test of your ability to reduce an argument to tolerable terms.

    So while you can’t improve your theory here, you can improve your ability to present your theory.

    Its not uncommon in politically incorrect circles to argue that China’s IQ advantage, and the evidence of Asian ‘pliability’ demonstrated from the moment of birth onward, is the result of the systematic and intentional extermination of troublemakers for thousands of years. We know that in northern Europe the use of manorialism allowed the middle class gene pool to almost entirely replace the proletarian gene pool, and that the plague exacerbated it a bit. So that almost all northern europeans by the early 1600’s were decedents of the middle class. And we’re pretty sure that Northern European, Ashkenazi and Chinese IQ’s were at relative parity in 1850. But that we’re getting ‘dumber’ genetically even if ratio-scientific eduction and the Flynn effect of universal exposure to universal rules has somewhat compensated for it. The net being that aside from their side track into Marxism, they’ve done a lot of good for themselves. But some truths are painful.

    I get that Crimea has the best of both worlds if it stays part of Ukraine, but has Russia’s backing. In effect it gets to play the Black Sea version of Hong Kong. If brought back into Russia directly it would have less autonomy that it does as a ‘leased territory’.

    (FWIW: stopping the Russians from taking over the Ottomans (the crimean war) was yet another stupid thing we did. Added to the list of many stupid things we did. Sigh…)

    What I didn’t grasp before living here was how much status signaling was contained in western propaganda.

    It’s pathetic really.

    Ukraine made a militia out of ad hoc barricades, old tires, molotovs, custom made armor, surplus helmets and construction gear.

    Large groups of Ukrainians are patrolling the streets for troublemakers. The police are just ‘gone’. Invisible. They are wearing soviet era helmets, makeshift armor, and carrying baseball bats and lengths of pipe.

    No bravado. Just doing it.

    If every able bodied (and sane) man (and woman) is armed, and trained, then your government cannot oppress you. If your government does not want every able bodied (and sane) man (and woman) armed and trained, then you have to wonder why they would fear such a thing. If you aren’t willing to commit yourself to being armed and trained (if sane) then you cannot possibly claim that you have earned your property rights. ‘Cause you haven’t. You’re a parasite on the commitment, risk and effort of others.

    Pacifist libertarianism is just an excuse for free riding: parasitism.

    If you don’t have a militia, you don’t have freedom.

    You merely have permission.
