PEOPLE NEED SOMETHING TO FIGHT IN FAVOR OF, NOT JUST AGAINST

It’s all well and good to understand that a small guerilla movement can topple the greatest nation. It’s all well and good that we agree that a government is corrupt and predatory. It is another thing to know what to replace it with. And how to replace it. Once you know how to replace it, and you show people the opportunities that come from that replacement, telling them how to achieve it is trivial. It’s terribly easy to bring a government and an economy to its knees even without big symbolic events. And it is much easier if the people bringing it to its knees feel that they have a moral objective, a plan for achieving it, and a plan for sustaining it.

WE ARE BOTH FIGHTING FOR TRIBALISM

The islamists are fighting for tribalism. If their tribalism wasn’t wrapped in islamic anti-science and anti rationalism, I’d support it. But should we look at it another way? Did their states just fail faster because they were poorer? They want to preserve their low trust tribalism. we want to preserve our high trust tribalism. But both from the islamist and the aristocratic sides, we are trying to restore tribalism against the anti-tribal corporate state.

—“[CREVELD] His first conclusion was that the nation-state, as we know it, is in decline. The second was that warfare is undergoing a transformation to a new form that will be impossible for nation-states to defeat.”—

I’ve always wanted to run companies. I couldn’t care less what company it is. As long as I can do it profitably, it’s vaguely interesting, and it’s not immoral (I don’t care if its legal or not, just moral or not), then I feel that I have built my little kingdom and have contributed to society.

When I told my first future father in law this (he was from Westchester County) he was indignant that my plans weren’t more precise. I didn’t want to really argue with him. But it really bothered him.

Do good at what you can do. Don’t look for perfection. It isn’t there.

ARISTOCRACY AS THE INSURER OF LIBERTY

All aristocracy must by definition treat each other as equals, regardless of our race, religion, culture, language. But that is because the contract of aristocratic egalitarianism requires we reciprocally grant one another all property rights, and agree to defend each other against abrogations of those rights, without question, regardless of sacrifice. We INSURE each other. Aristocracy is the insurer of liberty. Aristocracy crates liberty. Aristocracy Insures liberty. And the currency of aristocracy is violence.

    (note to self)

Realism, Instrumentalism, and Operationalism, solve a lot of philosophical problems since so many of those problems are the product of language. It’s pretty funny or maybe ironic to me, that after more than a century of verbal gymnastics it turns out that language is the cause of the problems of politics not the cure for it. I don’t know why that’s so funny. So HUMAN, to conduct a century of distraction with little to show for it, but it’s definitely identifiable as an instance of the pattern of human foibles.

PHILOSOPHY AS A STREET VENDOR, OR HERMIT?

(It’s not hard. I read books, papers, news and blogs all day and use FB as a sketchbook. The purpose of sketches is to put ideas in my own words. To see if in my own words I can construct arguments. To, over time, simplify and hone those arguments. Now, some people happen to like watching this ideological blacksmithing, so it’s mutually beneficial. Others learn and are entertained and I get feedback from them. It’s awesome really. How did thinkers just hole up and talk to their books? It works, sure. But it’s just so much more human and enjoyable to work as a street vendor than a hermit.)
