    CONSERVATISM’S SENSE OF DISGUST (PURITY)

You know, what separates conservatives from libertarians is not only groupishness (hierarchy, duty), but a higher purity (disgust) response. Now, I am entirely aware that I have this disgust response. And I know its genetic. And I know its evolutionary purpose. And so in the moral, legal, and POLITICAL context I try not to let it interfere with my judgements. But in the personal context, in my own life, I still feel a very high disgust response to the same things conservatives do. So I tend to avoid ‘disgusting’ environments both physically and intellectually. The hard discipline to develop for most of us is not projecting our feelings as universal goods, but instead, special adaptations for the division of perception, cognition, knowledge, labor and advocacy. It is hard, but we can demonstrate preference in personal life and demonstrate awareness of preference in reason.

Not sure why but got an attack straight from Putin HQ in St Petersburg yesterday, instead of through a VPN. So that removes all doubt.

    I take it as a compliment. 🙂

I figured out Parks today, (Our ancient Grove and Tree worship).

It may not be obvious yet but I am trying to collect those instances in which men are not only morally licensed to use violence, but morally required to use violence.

    HOLLYWOOD, LET ME HELP YOU

The movie business doesn’t scale any more than national narratives do. Understand? Anything interesting for everyone is impassionate for anyone.

the hero’s journey may be universal but the properties of that journey cannot be universalised.

I gave the same speech to the newspaper industry in 2008. There is a limit to scale. After that you must represent mini and micro-group interests.

But this destroys the evangelical self importance of journalists and the financial incentives in news distribution.

Like government, there is little advantage to scale except credit. Unless studios start getting into the military business they have run out of scale.

Movies and news are regional, meaning cultural, phenomenon.

Hence why americans don’t like movies: no heroes are possible without opponents.
