  • It’s Not Hard to Prepare.

Dec 26, 2019, 4:05 PM It’s not hard to prepare. Mostly, keep your finger off the trigger, and the barrel at the sky; never shoot by or over anyone on your team; and don’t pull a trigger unless you have two seconds of sight time to be sure you know what you’re gonna hit. Why? Most of the time, you are waaaay more dangerous to your peers than the enemy. The rest comes naturally.

  • Wisdom Learned and Wisdom Earned: We Are Self Domesticating

    Jan 10, 2020, 11:02 AM

—“The hardest thing over the last few years I’ve had to come to accept has had to be be the proposition that “we are self-domesticating.” That we must own efforts in every “agent-arena” relationship because no one but us will. For those of us like myself that “wandered through the existential desert”, wasting years of life without guidance, that we must climb near-vertical trajectories. All the while respecting Hanlon’s Razor[1] as you brush arms with others. It’s tough at times. The etiquette and refinement is a lifelong investment. It doesn’t get easier, you just get better. All the while expecting nothing, keeping humility, etc.”— Todd E. Magnusson

Elegant. Honest. Heartfelt. From experience. True. Staying on message: This is the reason we need to teach the stoic method as basic emotional fitness. It provides mindfulness without the need for falsehoods (religion). Realism, Naturalism, Empiricism, Operationalism, Acquisitionism-Propertarianism, Cooperationism, Reciprocity, Reciprocity to our Ancestors, Mindfulness. That is the only ‘True’ Religion we know of.

[1] Hanlon’s Razor: “Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.”

  • Carlos Gohn Arrested

I’ve followed this guy for quite a few years as an example of someone whose empirical management and workload was something I simply had to be in awe of. I don’t know if he’s guilty of anything yet but his skill is certainly something to study. He was brutal (American) in both France and Japan. He did a job with Renault. Then he saved Nissan. But he’s been accused of financial reporting issues. Running both Renault and Nissan at the same time. But this put Japanese and french companies in conflict because Nissan is far better in engineering and selling into both Asia and America. This was a mistake. He should have taken one or the other. And he was … excessively greedy in executive compensation. Japan, esp, does not tolerate high exec pay. I”m not sure what he’s being accused of is a ‘crime’. Mixing companies across cultures does not work well.

So far it’s the ‘least wrong’ history of medieval europe I can find. Also can recommend: Hodgett, Gerald Augustus John – A social and economic history of medieval Europe (1972). Haven’t seen it on libgen. Shorter. But adequate.

The galaxy has only rotated 50 – 60 times, the earth has only rotated around it 20 times, we pass through the galactic plane every 30-40m years, and are part of a wave-shaped stellar nursery above and below the plane.
