    Well, there are nice academics in the world, providing you with the knowledge with which to make the compromise position. And there are those of us carrying sticks, some of which go boom, in case you choose poorly. My job is natural law – juridical decidability. And the stick.

    I hope intellectual history gives JonHaidt the credit he deserves. That said, as far as I can tell, *These self reported data tell us nothing at all other than that there is a change in self reporting.* All valid data is demonstrated not reported. All reported data = signal.

    —“How does one create a nation state and at the same time does not offend other ethnic minorities?”— This is a fascinating question because it demonstrates a cultural difference between western and non-western cultures. The founding principle of western civilization is that you have no ‘right’ to respect, or freedom from ‘offense’, whatsoever, because the evidentiary truth is more important to the people than your status or self image. We see ‘offending’ as ‘teaching the ignorant’. The purpose of a nation state is to prevent competition from obtaining political power. Hence the success of monarchies, and constitutional monarchies, and chinese bureaucracies, over the more primitive peoples of the world. Once deprived of ability to obtain power by political or religious means, a people has only commerce by which to obtain power, and commerce is meritocratic.

    —“As a highly qualified and intelligent person, do you think that IQ can be increased and is it important?”— Short answer “No”. There is zero evidence that IQ can be increased and all evidence suggest it cannot, and it cannot because the seven or so factors that contribute to producing intelligence are genetically and developmentally determined. HOWEVER, since intelligence largely provides an advantage in speed of accumulating knowledge, one can combine READING HISTORY, ECONOMICS and SCIENCE to improve your general knowledge. General knowledge is the only substitute for intelligence. General knowledge of the general rules of the universe that science has taught us provides us with an unconscious understanding of how cause and effect are related at all scales. And economics and physics teach us that ‘nothing is free’. In other words, benefit from the hard work of others in digesting the universe for you and then reading and understanding their words. Is it important? The question is, you have a finite amount of life to spend. Do you need to spend it this way in order to improve some aspect of your life?

    Replying to @JonHaidt

    DEMOCRACY = MONOPOLY

    1) Markets allow competing groups to collaborate on means, even if they pursue opposing ends. Classical Houses of classes create a market. Democracy creates a monopoly by eliminating the market for commons between the classes, and forcing conflict into the informational commons.

    COSMOPOLITANISM = POLITICAL COMMUNISM

    2) Cosmopolitanism(political communism) has failed everywhere its tried, just as has economic communism(socialism), and commons communism (libertarianism).Yet people pursue heterogeneous polities despite only homogenous polities exiting poverty, corruption, low trust, and tribalism.

    SOCIAL MEDIA IS AS ACCURATE AS PILLOW TALK

    3) BTW: As far as I know, (a) we over-report compromise, and over-demonstrate on conflict. (b) we self-report more honestly online than in person. (c) We most accurately self-report in conflict (from a position of physical safety.) IOW: social media = “political pillow talk”.
