I’m still skeptical, but it appears that east asians and europeans diverged over 40K years ago – because east asians do share some of the more complex genes with europeans. But while europeans are much more neotenous than south eurasians and certainly africans, East Asians have much higher neoteny than europeans, even more so than europeans have over south asians and africans.
So there is a genetic predisposition for more childlike (meaning socially adaptive) social behavior (groupishness) than is evident in westerners – in exchange they get to live a bit longer, have a lower body mass index, have less body hair, and personality differences.
Those differences (genetic research) are in excitement seeking, empathy, the perception of loneliness, conscientiousness, and extraversion.
This genetic difference does correlate with Hofstede’s cultural Dimensions Indices.

individualism vs. collectivism (IDV),
masculinity versus femininity (MAS),
uncertainty avoidance index (UAI),
long-term orientation versus short-term normative orientation (LTO), and
indulgence versus restraint (IVR).

There are competing networks in the brain, that if disregulated can form agents (schizophrenia). But Minsky’s society of mind was sort of an overstatement. But there are not multiple agents in the body. There is indeed an escalation path from the spine, to the brain stem, to the thalamus to the cingulate cortex, to the voluntary release of action by the prefrontal cortex. But there is no agency down there in the spine other than reflexes.
The hippocampal AC3 auto association region keeps alive a continuous stream of associations and recursive associations through backpropagation, that cause parallel predictions (computations), that compete for attention. And thinking consists of holding open some set of networks from the prefrontal cortex and then focusing on recursively associating in that newtwork, essentially navigating as if you were moving your body through space – which is where that ability evolved from.Reply addressees: @Gyeff0 @TheAiGrid
