    И смерти нет почётней той

    Что ты принять готов

    За кости пращуров твоих

    За храм своих богов.

    (Thus spake the brave horatio

To the captain at the gate:)

“How can a man die better,

    Than facing fearful odds,

For the ashes of his fathers,

And the temples of his gods?”

  • Manufacturing Liberty

(Guest Post by Eli Harman: ) [A]sking people to forego parasitism (if they’re weak) or predation (if they’re strong) is asking them to bear a substantial opportunity cost. They will only do so if someone stands ready to impose a higher actual cost for choosing to engage in them. This is what Curt Doolittle means when he says “liberty must be manufactured by violence.” Libertarians love to sing liberty’s praises, and there is much to be said in its favor. But it does not follow from this that liberty is always in everyone’s best interests. There are many people who stand to lose more from liberty than they would stand to gain. (And not just because they misperceive the situation.) There are still more people for whom the uncertainty over what they would stand to gain or lose would make desiring liberty irrational. The incentives that favor liberty do not exist by default, they must be proactively created. And in order for this to happen there must be people likely to benefit from liberty, strong people, capable people, wise people, intelligent people, responsible people, farsighted people; in short, aristocrats. And they must organize to impose liberty on the remainder by force, and in many cases, to their detriment, or to their enduring resentment. If liberty is thus to be manufactured, the problem of free-riding must also be overcome by institutional forms that deny the benefits of liberty to those unwilling to participate in its manufacture, and that preserves the benefits for the exclusive enjoyment of those so willing.

  • "God's Three European Languages"

GOD’S THREE EUROPEAN LANGUAGES AND THE CHURCH RESORTS TO ONE [U]nfortunately Socrates’s criticism applies to all of academia. Or in the new vernacular, all members of the neoreactionary’s ‘Cathedral’ – the replacement of the church and academy with the state and academy under a bizarre form of numerical and technological heresy. I was thrilled at the church’s restoration of the exorcists today. When the church re-institutes the Templars or Hospitallers and we warriors have moral sanction to restore the church’s property, and the church as opponent to the state, we will rescue not only the church, but the west itself. But without that sanction the church will continue to decline, and the west with it. The problem being that the church needs a new knightly order, and to be in an position of desperation. [M]y current belief is that mysticism is more important to the church than philosophy. And the talents in the church more suitable to mysticism than philosophy. And the third world, not Europe, the church’s economic and intellectual interest. As such the church will not save Europe, and ceases to be a european institution other than ceremonially. The church created Europa and at present the church may be the only means of saving it. In Europe god speaks three languages: the science and history of warriors, the reason and allegory of protestants, and the mythology and passion of the catholics. The church no longer speaks the languages of god. And Europa is abandoned by her church because of it.

REFORMULATION OF “WE MUST DEVELOP POLITICAL INSTITUTIONS FOR THE PEOPLE WE HAVE, NOT THOSE WE WISH WE HAD” “Observation of individual men would never have led to the formulation of the static conceptions upon which the democratic edifice is founded, such as justice, equality, fraternity, order. These are based not on the traits of living men but upon schemes for the aggrandizement of mere thought-creations – “humanity”- “mankind.” Indeed the “characteristics of men” – are something to be explained away, something to be overcome in the interests of “mankind.”” – Dora Marsden

–“You see, …. *I’m* the enemy. Because I like to think, I like to read. I’m into freedom of speech, freedom of choice. I’m the kind of guy who would sit in the greasy spoon and think “Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the big rack of Barbecued spare ribs with the side order of gravy fries?” I *want* high cholesterol. I want to eat bacon, butter and buckets of cheese alright? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinatti in a non-smoking section. I wanna run around naked with green jell-o all over my body reading a Playboy magazine. Why? Because maybe I feel the need to okay pal? I’ve *seen* the future, you know what it is. It’s made by a 47 year-old virgin in gray pajamas soaking in a bubble bath, drinking a broccoli milkshake…”– Edgar Friendly

“One such classification system is Fiske’s Relational Model that has the following classes:

    1. Communal Sharing,

    2. Authority Ranking,

    3. Equality Matching,

    4. Market Pricing / Rational Legal.

The last of these is the framework usually used by libertarians.”

The reason we use it, is because, in a complex division of labor, greater than the family, extended family, or village, it is the only one in which we can be relatively certain that we are not free riding or rent seeking.

There is simply no other combination of technologies that are available to us. NONE. Equality is impossible except among family members.

Even if it were technically possible, I am not even sure it is desirable.
