    AGAINST INVESTING IN RAND

    It’s a dead topic. Rands arguments are not bad. It’s her followers that tend to be the problem for her philosophy not her work itself.

    She made philosophy accessible through literature. But in doing so included those incapable of its mastery, and who instead thrash quotes about like chimps with sticks.

    The more relevant question is why in an age of science one would even try to employ rationalism given that the language of discourse is now science, economics and law.

    What this means is that the bar to discourse has been raised leaving rationalism ( noncontradiction) behind.

    Cooperation is a scientific problem, not

    And so you burn energy defending what you understand but which is of no political or innovative value.

    Liberty is a genetic preference of a permanent minority. Rand can merely justify that preference and insulate it from moral critique.

    But other than that defense there is no solution there and no value there .

    And the more opportunity cost you waste on that malinvestment the less investment you make in something useful with which to transform the world and advance existential Liberty.

    (Note: I’m not anti-Tucker. I see him as a very good man with good intentions but part of a prior generation’s thinking whose time has long passed, and methods have long failed. But I have no reason to believe that he is anything other than a good man with good intentions. I like him quite a bit and always have.)

    (a) Regarding the media, are you rationalizing what the media can do, or are you relying upon empirical evidence of what the media can do? Because the evidence is that they create opinion in sufficient voters to do precisely what you say they cannot. (b) I have a hard time seeing the difference between the current president and a trump presidency or any other presidency in the absence of rule of law. And given the evidence of (a), its logical to prefer a president who will continue to undermine (a).

    Liberty is produced by rule of law(universal application) demanding the total prohibition on parasitism(imposition of costs) in the private (morality) and public (liberty) spheres of action, constructed by individual enforcement of norms, individual enforcement of law under universal standing, organized enforcement of the law under an independent judiciary, and organized prevention of usurpation of that law by the militia.

    And liberty is (again, empirically not just rationally) a preference of and only of a limited number of individuals in limited family structures, with limited cultural traditions, with limited legal traditions. All others systematically seek to undermine it in every polity on earth.

    Man was not kept down and oppressed by his betters. Man was incrementally civilized by his betters, much against his will. He was forced to abandon murder, violence, theft, fraud, fraud by asymmetry, fraud by indirection, fraud by obscurantism, free riding, privatization of commons, socialization of losses, conspiracy, conversion, immigration, war, and conquest.

    By being forced to abandon all unproductive and parasitic actions, the only venue left for man was the burden of participation in the market through productive, fully informed, voluntary exchange free of imposition of cost by externality.

    But the arts of production are difficult, and the arts of lying, defrauding, cheating, stealing, blackmailing, free riding, privatization of commons, socialization of losses, conspiracy are much easier.

    Liberty requires meritocracy and meritocracy is not a matter of belief it is a mater of ability.

    Genes matter. Open immigration is empirically destructive. While we can estimate the decline in anglo intelligence since 1850, we can measure the decline in French intelligence due to immigration just since 1950. The Flynn effect can be reversed through degradation of the gene pool.

    It is the gene pool that establishes the degree of liberty, the degree of truth telling, the degree of productivity, the norms and traditions of a polity.

    It is a romantic amateurism to pursue liberty as a philosophical choice – a religion or cult – versus an empirical problem to be solved.

    The age of rationalization has ended just as the age of mysticism ended. The current era is one of science: requiring both internal consistency(logical and rational) and external correspondence(empirical) as well as existentially possible (operationally articulable) and morality (voluntary transfers) bounded by full accounting (of all costs to all capital) and parsimony (defined limits of falsification).

    Time for the adult version of liberty: Aristocratic(meritocratic) Egalitarian(meritocratic) Eugenic(meritocratic) Nomocracy(rule of law) assisted by a market for the production of commons using the exception of legal dissent, rather than the requirement of universal assent by majority rule.

    Trump is a tool of progress. That is all. Liberty requires progress. Moreover it requires we repress the rates of reproduction of the underclasses who will not and cannot participate in liberty.

    It’s a race problem. The data has consistently demonstrated that it’s a race problem.

    We punish people who train their dogs because of the people who dont.

    We punish the people who have insurance because of the people who dont.

    We punish the people who produce because of the people who dont.

    We punish the people who behave well in parks becasue of the people who dont.

    We give moms in minivans going 4mph over the speed limit yet it takes 9 convictions before a car thief sees jail time, and the police do not even investigate property crime perpetrated by meth gangs.

    We punish people for tax problems yet the IRS takes no responsibility for their advice.

    We punish people in courtrooms for the crime of being too poor to take a day off from work for a procedural problem.

    We make people renew drivers licenses every four years while the rest of the world works in decades or lifetimes.

    We tax elderly out of their homes so that higher taxes can be extracted from a new generation.

    Now you want to punish the people who behave well with guns because of the people who dont.

    I can go on with this list of injustices forever.

    This issue is done. The public won’t change. We increase gun ownership every year.

    Fix the mental health problem.

    Fix the out-of-control race problem.

    Fix the injustice problem.

    Otherwise the only reason we have guns – to eliminate injustice by replacement of a corrupt government with a new one – will be the consequence.

    First, I like that you’re pointing out his technique, and how long Trump has been using it – his whole career.

    However, I think I might want to help you understand just how ancient this technique is in the west – given our many-thousand-year-old culture of oath-making.

    You can notice rather quickly once aware of it, that traditional westerners who carry on the ancient traditions of oath-making (conservatives, or more correctly, aristocratic egalitarians) rely upon exaggeration in order to make the point that “this small thing if done by all of us will lead to tragic consequences”.

    Conservative thought, which has its origins in the limits imposed by Anglo Saxon Oath that all men must give at maturity – meaning that men cannot steal in any capacity nor say something false or misleading – but they can still make use of exaggeration to illustrate intertemporal effects of behavior.

    In other words use of hyperbole is no different from the use of Greek Fable, or Germanic Fairy Tale, or Shakespearian Drama, and no different from Michelangelo’s use of oversized hands, feet, and head, of his sculpture of David.

    The use of exaggeration to illustrate a fundamental truth, is very different from misleading. It is in fact an exceptional means of communicating moral principles: that which we permit of one, will result in this bad of many.

    Hyperbole is the language of parable.

    White people, for all their failures of colonization, have in the ancient world and in the modern world, dragged humanity out of ignorance, poverty, and illness. Not once but twice.

    While Jews converted authoritarian Egyptian religion into scriptural monotheism – the First Great Lie, the Greeks invented truth telling, the jury, rule of law, the greater-jury: the senate and therefore politics, reason and science, freedom and liberty.

    While Europeans invented anglo-saxon rule of law, while the templars invented moral insurance, fractional reserve banking, credit and interest, what had other nations done? What did the most literate people in Europe do: the Jews? Nothing contributed to man whatsoever.

    When Europeans spread the high arts of Architecture, Painting, Drawing, Etching, the Opera, the Play, The Symphony, and the greatest sculptors the world has ever known, what did other nations do? What did jews do? Nothing.

    While Europeans spread the industrial revolution, accounting, rule of law, parliamentarianism, medicine, electromagnetism, photography, and invented empirical economics, and social science, what did other nations do? What did the Jews do: they invented pseudoscience and propaganda and lying as a virtue under: Boazian Anthropology, Freudian Psychology, Marxist Economics, Cantorian “Sets”, Misesian economics, The Frankfurt school of Gossip and Ridicule (“Critique”), the systemic use of “heaping undue praise” on these pseudoscientists and liars, Randian and Rothbardian Libertinism, Straussian NeoConservatism. And the institutionalism of lying via media that we call ‘critique, loading, framing, and overloading’: the industrialization deceit.

    While Europeans converted from christian monarchy to classical liberalism, what did others do? What did the Jews do? They maintained virtual slavery of the peasantry in Eastern Europe, prevented the creation of a modern state justice and liberty. And when given the chance under the Bolsheviks, filled the secret service, disproportionately contributed to policy, and used marxism and propaganda to create the most murderous government in history other than that of the Chinese. The Ukrainian Genocide was not constructed by ethnic Russians, but by a Georgian and Jews. – So great were their crimes that even the Russians with experience under Mongols, Tatars, and Ivan the Terrible cast them out. When given the chance under glasnost, they repeated their crimes which led Putin to cast them out.

    When persecuted in Europe and given protection in the USA, what did they do but use Columbia University to produce the systematic Gossip and Lying of the Frankfurt School.

    So in both the ancient and the modern world, westerners created truth and it’s consequence: empirical science, technology, medicine, and law, and spread it through colonization. Not all of it good. But not all of it bad either. And why were they able to spread it? Because the Islamic world had failed to create sufficient trust that they could construct a bureaucracy and advanced economy. Because the Jewish World (in Eastern Europe) could not create sufficient trust to construct an advanced economy. Because the Hindu world had failed to construct sufficient trust that they could create a bureaucracy. Because the african world had failed to create even the first semblance of trust.

    What did other nations do? What did the Jews do? In the ancient world they created the First Great Lie: Monotheism spread by Writing and Preaching. In the Modern world they created the Second Great Lie spread by new media and propagandism using both the fallacy of Critique, and the fallacy of “Heaping Undue Praise”.

    So before you criticize white people for their imperfections and at the same time willfully ignore their vast contributions, lets compare them to the imperfections and outright predations of others, and their tragic lack contributions.

    White people did almost everything meaningful in human history to advance truth, understanding, justice, beauty, health and prosperity. Meanwhile others spread lies (Jews) and others spread ignorance and poverty (Muslims).

    If there is anyone to blame in history it is the creators of lies and poverty.

    So please that NY Times Author Eula Bliss engages in “Critique” and “Heaping Undue Praise” In other words, the author is a liar and propagandist. Nothing more.

    SO DEBT? YES, OTHERS OWE US THAT DEBT.

    So here is the debt we want repaid: we want the fall of the roman empire, the thousand years of ignorance, and the past century and a half of pseudoscience, including the destruction of truth telling, the destruction of rule of law, and the destruction of the Civic Society paid for. We want Constantinople back, Greece and the Balkans back.

    And we won’t even charge the rest of humanity for dragging the brutality of asians, the dishonestly of middle easterners, and the ignorance of africans out of ignorance, poverty, illness and disease. Those are just freebies.

    What we do want, and what we demand, is that you stop propagandizing, loading, framing, overloading, lying, rallying and shaming, creating the Great Lies of mysticism in the ancient world, and pseudoscience in the modern, both of which were two of the most murderous and destructive forces ever unleashed upon humanity.

    So, given the vast differences in scale, how will you repay that debt?

    Relying upon a subjective frame of reference hinders further insight into the causes of behavior. So, instead of:

    —“Conflict occurs when someone defines another’s behavior as deviant – as immoral or otherwise objectionable”—

    I’m going to reframe this statement so that it provides a bit more explanatory power without engaging in the suggestion endemic to empathic experience and value judgement.

    Conflict occurs when someone seeks to impose a cost on another person, consisting of :

    1) loss of opportunity for experience – paying the cost of lost opportunity;

    2) increased demand for discipline – paying the cost of behavioral modification;

    3) loss of status or imaginary status – again resulting in opportunity for reward.

    4) loss of normative investment

    5) loss of material investment

    6) loss of offspring, mates, kin, or friends.

    All moral justifications for the imposition of cost on others depend upon the actor’s and subject’s perception of the terms of cooperation. In other words, moral arguments do not bother one’s enemies. Only those whom we ether cooperate with or seek opportunities to cooperate with.

    We most commonly call demand for the payment of these costs ‘shaming’, and the population we shame the person with ‘rallying’. The purpose of rallying and shaming is to deprive the subject of the cooperation – meaning opportunities for entertainment, friendship, production, or mating. The degree of rallying increases the scope of opportunities the subject will lose.

    Why then is rallying and shaming possible to employ as a means of coercion in some circumstances and not others? Well, have you ever heard the adage “academia is petty because the stakes are so low”? It’s not just academia where the stakes are low. In contemporary urban life, the stakes for almost every social relations are low because opportunity costs of association are near zero, and marginal difference in value when opportunity costs are near zero are also near zero. Hence the emphasis on signaling in dress, hobby, and possessions in urban areas.

    Rallying, Gossiping and Shaming can be successfully employed where the participants have limited value internally to one another, and externally to non-group members, and because of individual lack of value the only obtainable value members have , is collective action expressed as deprivation of opportunity of others outside the group – ie Boycott.

    Therefore:

    (a) students compose a revenue source for universities.

    (b) students individually have little (if any) value other than as a revenue source.

    (c) boycott by students causes externalities – potential loss of future revenue, but also loss of status signaling by the administration, staff, and faculty, all of whom depend upon signaling precisely because of marginal indifference of administration faculty and staff at other than at the extremes.

    Furthermore, students are for the first time finding power in collective action and find stimulation for the first (and perhaps last) times in their lives where their collective action is substantial enough to cause a change in the course of events. In other words, power is both unifying and exciting.

    Victimhood then is vehicle by the privileged and valueless to obtain stimulation as a consequence of exercising power as a group. It’s another exercise of parental rebellion and an attempt at new stimulation – greater sovereignty – and therefore maturity.

    Now, the question why this generation can rely upon rallying and shaming, and the question why the 60’s generation can rely upon rallying and shaming to threaten deprivation of opportunity to collect revenues and to maintain status signal (and to gain signals for some), is one of economics, class and genetics. Conversely why could some other generations not make use of rallying and shaming?

    I’m not a terribly big fan of Nietzsche, but this is an example of Will To Power and little else.

    We have little public record of some groups – we didn’t notice the German immigrants right – despite that they’re larger in number than the British? The catholics caused the prohibition movement and a good deal of the consequences of the depression, and a weakening of rule of law, but they even built their own schools and universities. But we noticed other groups as silent but beneficial such as Ukrainians in Canada, Hindus in the entrepreneurial sector, and East Asians in technical sectors in America. And we noticed other groups not silent – relying upon their traditional economic, class, and genetic strategies: shaming.

    Our genes are pretty effective puppet masters. And for many of us we are not even aware of the strings – despite the fact that nearly all we say and do in every circumstance is at their direction.

    Heterogeneity breeds signaling conflict, breeds normative conflict, breeds economic conflict, breeds residential and workplace conflict, and culminates in polarizing political conflict. Conflict increases demand for authority to resolve difference. Rule of law consisting of universal rules is sacrificed in favor of human discretion. Rule of law cannot resolve incommensurable differences. The more heterogeneous a polity the lower the trust the more demand for authority the more discretion the more corruption.

    Eventually, why do groups ABC contribute to commons consumed by groups DEF. Why do groups ABC sacrifice retirement and reproduction to fund unemployment and reproduction by BCD.

    Universities are just a barometer of an incoming high pressure front.
