Religion is necessary, though one can make a religon out of ritualization, out of stoicism, out of the original buddhism, of ethnicity worship, of ancestor worship, of hero worship, of demigod or god worship, or out of nature worship, or universe worship. religion creates a standard of moral “weights and measures”, the resulting equality, and the resulting mindfulness. So I would say we need a non false religion and that stoicism provides cognitive behavioral therapy, that produces mindfulness with the least falsehood. So yes it’s possible and we’re working on it.

Christianity created the jesus narrative as a weak approximation of the Achilles narrative, and instead of keeping the new testament separate tried to imitate the heroic epic cycle despite the backwardness of the superstitious people by wrapping it in semitic mythology of oppression to justify their superstition..

The ‘truth’ of christianity is that its the one religion that provided the solution to the prisoner’s dilemma of human cooperation, (and one that’s counter-intuitive), that grants one status under european aryanism (aristocdracy) by doing no wrong, instead of by heroic contribution to the commons by political, military commercial power. And even better, it prepares society for majority middle class ‘everyone is a customer’, and the prosperity that arises from it.

As for #2, the purpose of all religions since the first good-evil religion is to prevent non-aggression against insiders and llmit to encourage aggression against outsiders. The means by which religions ‘addict’ members is the production of mindfulness – which is a necessity. Both together, plus all the taboos and demands produce self regulation. It’s common for all people to assume that their culturall indoctrination produces a human normal (natural) set of intutions, but this is absolutely false. We have unequal needs for mindfulness but the majority need SOME form. For men it was originally the initiatic brotherhood of warriors. Religion provided women and other men a substitute.
