THE FOUNDERS WERE ENLIGHTENED (NOT SUPERSTITIOUS)
This is correct. The aristocratic founders understood the need for Christianity among the commoners. And. used Deism as a form of diplomacy. (I use the term loyalty instead of diplomacy.) Although Agnosticism rather than paganism had been a norm in the aristocracy for a very long gtime. So, it’s more likely to say that they were enlightened, meaning that they were no longer bound by superstition, rather than ‘pagan’. That is, unless you interpret Pagan as ‘philosophical’ rather than theological, or practicing ‘hero worship’ and meaning ‘worship’ in the most abstract sense of ‘imitation’.
