  • The West Is a Better but More Complex Game

Mar 5, 2020, 9:46 PM Every social order creates a game. Western civlization demands sovereignty – the antithesis of submission. The game is that we must find ways to govern by limits without imposing on sovereignty. So where most civilizations and moral codes are constructed of via positiva directives at the cost of innovation and adaptation, while western civilization is constructed from via negativa prohibitions within the limits of sovereignty at the cost of people coming to harm from their judgements. We play a more complex game. Self Determination, Sovereignty, Possibility of Success or Failure, Status Rewards for Heroism with tolerance, even accolades, for failure for having tried.

  • Prediction

Mar 5, 2020, 10:24 PM Climate will exacerbate global power shifts, and nothing will be or can be done without dramatic population reduction. Nationalism is the norm and it’s returning in force because (a) there is no possible replacement for the British-cum-American empire of the seas; and (b) because there is no longer any value to globalization of anything now that we have defeated all but islam, and dragged humanity kicking and screaming into the prosperity of modernity against their wishes. All that occurs with globalism is labor wage arbitrage when the fundamental problem is that there is almost nothing left to consume that we want to consume – except more time

  • A Social Reason Why We Need to Restore the Militia

Mar 5, 2020, 10:37 PM by Alex Hill

—“Many of the guys I served with immediately did security contracting after we got out. I’d much rather have the National Guard disbanded, and a local militia structure for veterans returning home fall into leadership positions, should they chose, for volunteer service at home. I think a lot of veteran dysfunction is from a loss of purpose. When you’re on your own and no longer just a wolf in the pack so to speak, it’s aggravating. That, and the disillusionment when you realize all that toil and suffering was for nothing were the worst parts for me anyway.”—

The other reason is so that we can mobilize en mass in the face of disaster – which we obviously can’t in response to (a) natural disasters, (b) this current epidemic – things which are organizational problems that are best solved through command and control. Markets discover. Command is necessary when we are reacting not discovering. Edit

  • “curt, Do You Believe that Russia Is a Very Misunderstood Country?”

Mar 6, 2020, 6:11 PM Yes, Russia is poorly understood, her government misunderstood, and the Russian people (who I love very much – often more than my own) poorly understood. But this misunderstanding is a manifestation of their government and The Russian Grand Narrative under which Russia’s national mythos, while true, is a product of the second world war, and the presumption of their innocence in that war, in their advocacy of communism, in their bolshevik revolution, in the napoleonic war, and in their wars with the slavic and baltic countries. Every european country that has warred with russia had good reason. Just as russia’s conquest of the mongol empire had a good reason. Unfortunately we keep ‘ruining’ our relationship. Had europeans done ‘the right thing’ in 1992, which was a marshal plan for russia, and rapid immediate integration into nato, we would not have the discord we have today. Putin asked. We stupidly said no. And history is what it is. So, as usual, in international affairs, anglos have the best of intentions, and make the worst of decisions. The world returns to normal, and the europeans will produce a german-russian or franco-german alliance. France has always been the enemy of europe, and the russians and germans have necessary overlapping interests. So this should play out interestingly.
