(compared to most I have led an extremely lucky life other than my aspiness, health, and violent childhood. I can’t claim privilege other than genetic but I made my way on my own. You have to work very hard and be pretty smart to compete at the top. You have to work smart and invest in capital in the middle. Work hard and limit your expenses at the bottom. The major difference being that the wealthier you are the more entertainment you can manage – although you probably have less want of it. Why? The man at the top finds entertainment in his gains and wants to preserve the income stream. The man in the middle appreciates his condition and is careful with his entertainment. The man at the bottom generally bears high emotional, intellectual, and especially physical cost, and needs sedation (pain killing) to persist it. The people at the bottom who have this down are those that check out and live cheaply on light labor and the state. The problem is there are too may of them. )

  • —“Curt: Please Resolve This Dispute. Does Chili Have Beans?”—

(humor) Um. I will debase myself for my fellow males and answer this question: a chili is determined by the use of chili powder. Chili with Meat in sauce refers to a stew. The stew is often colloquially shortened to “chili”. Chili with Meat stew can be extended most commonly with tomatoes, with beans, with rice, and less commonly with pasta. The origin of the term, is a ‘trail food’ where suet (beef fat), chili powder and ground beef, and salt would be combined then formed into bricks and dried. The bricks could be then stored easily when traveling and reconstituted with water and heat and whatever was available mixed in. Neither beans nor tomatoes are original, and pasta (as far as I know) is a stretch (Cincinnati) referring to Spaghetti Bolognese that includes chili powder. The standing argument is that tomato sauce, tomatoes, and/or beans are necessary for the americanized version which was developed in Texas in the early portion of the 20th century. Ergo, Mexican chili refers only to the original brick form, and (much like Chinese food served in America) the 20th century American invention includes beans and or tomatoes, and or rice. So colloquial term ‘chili’ refers to a category, and unless Mexican, American, or Cincinnati, or some other name is included is simply due to the speaker’s custom (intention).

    FAVORITE ARTISTS
I don’t have favorite artists. I prefer certain periods like anyone else, but pretty much love good craftsmanship in any of them. I have a very clear want of line, so I prefer ink, etching and mezzotints. I have generally purchased small sculpture when possible. If I could own and live with anything substantive it would be a Rothko, or one of Bruegel’s peasant celebrations. If I could collect anything it would be life size portraits of nobility over the centuries – it would be like living with them. The contemporary work I like most is either quite technical and illustrative or the monumental portraits and portrait sculpture. I dislike photorealism (projectors) and mass market abstract and mixed media (intensely). For my own, I have generally preferred many small pieces to large pieces so a home or office has variety rather than to invest in a single. I personally worked on nudes and prefer the human form, the human form as landscape, and landscape. If I worked today I would do ‘wall sculpture’ using large numbers of woven human forms. I have drawn out and planned to create monumental theatrical dioramas. In my next place I will use a large vertical monitor to just rotate through pieces randomly selected by software from the internet and rotating every minute or three.

(diary) Some days I beat my head against a wall to pump out of few sentences. Some days the words just flow out of my fingers without an ounce of effort. And I have no idea which day will be which. Today is one of the good days thankfully.
