    THE DEPRESSING DARK SEASON

A lot of us are affected by the winter darkness. Usually it get to me about this time of year and I need a little sunshine.

I’ve been taking high doses of Vitamin D and it really helps. And this year is better than any other year I can remember because of it.

But I wonder, how does everyone else cope with it?

NO MATTER WHAT RINGTONE YOU USE

You probably sound like a d_____g to somebody.

(This guy behind me has the Carpenters ‘killing me softly’, and gets a call every two minutes. And every time it goes off I want to throw my coffee at him.)

THE OMLY TIME YOU SEE THIS MANY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN IN SEATTLE…

… is when a group of visiting Russian women go slumming in Bellevue.

And here it’s just an average day in an average restaurant.

I was in that Asian place in Bellevue Square in September and about half a dozen pretty average Russian women showed up and the men came out of the woodwork like cockroaches.

    Rubes. :).

    It was demeaning.

For the men I mean. 🙂

    JUST ROADSTERS – NO PRETENDERS

Just because you have two seats and a convertible top does not make you a roadster. A roadster is a four wheeled motorcycle. They are not overly powerful. They are not overly fast. They just FEEL fast and powerful because they’re small and light and you feel connected to both the car and the road. With the top down you are part of the great outdoors. And you FEEL it.

The list of available roadsters is:

    ALFA ROMEO SPIDER

    BMW Z4/Z8

    FIAT BARCHETTA

    GTM SPYDER

    HONDA S2000

    MAZDA MIATA

    MG TF

    PANOZ ESPERANTE

    PORSCHE BOXSTER

    GM SKY/SOLSTICE

    TOYOTA MR2

    TVR TAMORA/TUSCAN

    WISEMANN RX

The Panoz, TVR and Wisemann are all cars I’d love to own. Although you dont really own great sports cars. You get lucky enough to hold onto a bit of automotive history for a few years before passing it on to someone else. Sort of like a the Stanley Cup or something. 🙂

    CUTS:

    =============

I cut the following because they may be sports cars, but they are not roadsters. You cannot take a coupe, give it a soft top, and call it a roadster. It’s a pretender.

    CONVERTIBLE SPORTS CARS

    AUDI TT

    NISSAN Z

    MERCEDES SL

    LEXUS LFA

    SPYKER SWB

    ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE

    CHEVROLET CORVETTE

    DODGE VIPER

    AUDI A8

    TRACK CARS

    SMART ROADSTER

    TESLA ROADSTER

    LOTUS ELISE

    VAUXHALL VX220

    YES! ROADSTERTRACK CARS

    SMART ROADSTER

    TESLA ROADSTER

    LOTUS ELISE

    VAUXHALL VX220

    YES! ROADSTER

    ANYTHING WITH EXTERIOR FRONT WHEELS.

    MORGAN

    CATERHAM

    ALLARD

    ATOM

    BROOKE

    WESTFIELD

    VARIOUS SUPERCARS (ALL)

If you have a supercar it’s not a roadster. Its a sports car or an imitation race car. Although any number of ferraris I’m sure could make the cut.

    KIEV: FIRST SNOW

Insane traffic. Accidents on hills. Sliding cars. Helpless facial expressions. Men with shovels.

Just like Seattle without the justification for it. 🙂

The weather is like Ottawa. Cold. But the people and architecture are not.

    I love this absurd country.

    FASHION : WEAR AND TEAR

The last time I lived in a city full time, was in Boston in the 1980’s, when I had a ponytail, an earring and wore a jacket, jeans and sneakers every day – and yes, it was pretty trendy (hip) at the time.

Normally, I keep a lot of shoes. And while I favor two or three pair, I wear most of them. But that means I wear them driving around, at home, or in the effete shops of bellevue. The main danger to fine shoes in seattle is to the soles from being wet so frequently.

Today I’ve noticed the wear and tear on my shoes from walking in the city. My Geox are less than six months old and are pretty much at end of cycle. The new Prada’s are taking a beating. Cobblestones and all.

So, it’s either go thru two pair of shoes every three months, and keep up with fashion or move to four pair and try to make that last six or nine months.

I guess, if you don’t need a car, you can afford the shoe budget. 🙂

    OBSERVATIONS: WATER QUALITY.

I take showers so I don’t see the water in volume ever.

But I just noticed that the water is green. It’s not clear. It’s not tinted blue. It’s tinted green.

Now I suppose that’s copper. But the water isn’t potable here. And I suspect that’s why the soups all bother my stomach?

    Yech.

You don’t have to budget much for utilities. But you do have to budget for drinking and cooking water.

I had a similar problem in Ottawa. So much sulphur in the water that I couldn’t drink it.

Growing up on an unspoiled snow fed lake had advantages.
