Damn bars close at 2pm in seattle. What use is that?

Now i have to go find food and work off the fireball shots that some guy named Todd bought me.

At least in kiev, i can get a cab. Here in seattle i have to wait until I’m sober enough.

Men love mechanical content whether its diagrams, formulae, theorems, arguments.

A little secret technical information right next to you. It will keep you spiritually warm and fuzzy whe out there amidst the chaos.

RG has become a little too dominated by hispanic patterns for my tastes. But now and again they priduce a piece thats enough victorian in symbolism to appeal to me.

( I have the most outrageous Liberace inspired jacket for club wear by robert graham. But theyd never let me into straight clubs in Kiev wearing it. Lol. )

    SNIPPETS FROM A LECTURE

    “It was a social experiment.”

“You empowered us. For some of us it worked. For others, you gave them the chance to believe they could be more than they ever could be.”

“They’re disappointed. They had all these ideas about themselves. About what could have been.”

“Some of these people think that if they just follow the manual according to Curt then in three years I’ll be Curt.”

“Part of it’s your fault, you know. You created a religion. And you were the shepherd. And you left them.”

    OUCH

Most people can do more than they believe if they will trust themselves to try. They often need permission to try. They need to be trained to be confident. To develop the intuition that the only failure is a failure to experiment – to try.

I’m very proud of the dozen companies that exist today because we created that entrepreneurial confidence in so many, and the experience that an entrepreneurial environment provides.. And the dozens more companies that have been affected by that experience.

It doesn’t occur to me when I’m trying to make something great, that there will be people who fail. And that some of those people will be marked by that failure. It wouldn’t be ‘aristocratic’ of me.

And libertarianism is an aristocratic philosophy.

MAX: You don’t really expect me to do anything of value today, do you? I mean. Maybe with a couple of cheeseburgers, four cups of coffee, two liters of water, and some anti-histamines, I’ll be able to string a few sentences together. But, we aren’t really going to try to work today? Right?

    I hope so. 🙂

Prague is fine. My initial reaction is the boat or somewhere sunny, but a) we want a lot to do, and there is a lot to do in Prague, and b) its easy to get there and not easy to get to plenty of other places that are sunny and c) its cheap.

I think two nights is fine. This should be our off season. Not our big meet. Some of us can come a day or two early if we want to, or stay a day later.

Finding a hotel with enough rooms available should be easy. This is how hotels make money. Every hotel has an event manager for these kinds of things.

My schedule is much more flexible than everyone else’s. I think that if it is too far off that we lose momentum. If it is too near we can’t do a good job. So late march or early april is probably about right.

We do need to have a conference room where we can do a few presentations. Otherwise we’re just a roving band of alcoholic libertarians. 🙂

I NEED A “FIX” OF PFS FRIENDS

We really need a purely casual ‘off season’ meeting somewhere. A year is too long to last between visits.

GOOD FRIENDS, GOOD BUSINESS, GOOD FAMILY : GOOD LIFE

You know I have issues like everyone else, like post-divorce legal nonsense, and a daily war with a touch of Aspergers that requires an extraordinary and unwavering effort of will to contain – I need more than a finger stuck in the dike to hold it back. And god knows I’ve had enough health problems to take down a dinosaur — but I keep on fighting the good fight.

But if a man puts together a business, has good friends to run it with, has good family to love and be loved by, and at least one hobby or interest that allows him to escape into a cave and relax, then life is pretty good.

Life is pretty good — even if you have all sorts of problems. It’s pretty good.

(PS: if it weren’t for the government it’d be great, not good.) 🙂

A FRIENDLY NOTICE TO RECENT FB FRIENDS

Please understand what I do. I write political philosophy. Conservative Libertarian political philosophy. This is not a game. It is not recreation. It is what I do. And I consider it the most important thing that I can do.

Facebook is a scratch-pad. A notebook where I try ideas that I’m currently thinking about. And It’s how I keep in touch with the other people who do the same. An argument is a philosophical proposition structured in statements. You can think of them as math problems of a sort. Sometimes, you have to work those statements out. Just like you work out math problems. I don’t know sometimes how those arguments will work out until I make them. FB is a place where I can make them and where, if I make some big mistake, someone will point it out to me. Most of the time I’m making similar arguments but trying to make them more simple and easier to understand. I even succeed at it sometimes. 🙂

I belong to organizations that are commonly called ‘think tanks’ that conduct a research program called “Anarcho Capitalism” in which we try to determine how to replace the monopoly we call the state and its bureaucratic government with institutions that are subject to competition and therefore less subject to systemic corruption. This is a noble cause. I am proud of my contributions to this cause. I am proud of what we accomplished over the past century.

But you don’t have to agree with what I write, even on the odd chance you understand it. And I would never ask you to. It’s OK with me. I am not trying to create popular music or god forbid, run for office. I’m trying to find a solution to a pretty important problem that’s at least 2500 years old.

But I value your friendship in real life, even if you are uncomfortable with radical political philosophy, and radical conservative philosophy at that. So please try to understand that there are some of us who think that our current system of government is based on concepts that are no more sensible than the religious mysticism it replaced. And that there are a few of us out here playing the role of Galileo, Hume, Darwin and Weber in the hope of finding rational solution to the problem of human cooperation that we call ‘government’.

And so the only thing I’ll ask you to look at me and my work through that lens. Even if you think I’m wrong. Because I acknowledge that I might be. 🙂

    (It’s just unlikely) 😉

    Cheers
