–“We attach, thoughts, emotions, and sensation and behaviors to one another creating our experience of maintaining homeostasis of our body, emotions, mind, and environment, which at some amplitude of stimulation to restore homeostasis causes us to alter our behavior from current state to a state satisfying demand for homeostasis. However, there is a cost of behavioral modification and a cost of uncertainty in modifying our behavior, and we will often resist or double down on maintaining behaviors existing behaviors we believe will restore homeostasis rather than pay the cost of adaptation under uncertainty to restore homeostasis – social reinforcement will amplify this resistance. Even worse, if we are pursuing some unattainable ideal, and it is socially reinforced, we will produce positive feedback for our existing behaviors even if this leads to self destruction.
