I wouldn’t want to claim an algorithm as such exists – tho the example is good – but a sense of relief from ‘running with the pack’ or ‘with the herd’ produces a feeling of security that is ‘safer’ than al others producing a state of rapture as a release from stress.

FWIW: the depression to schizophrenia spectrum appears to be something to do with the immune system. Given the high density of genetic contribution to intelligence, and the rather broad number of existing and possible defects, fixing (all) those genetic defects will be difficult.

I would argue that over the past decade and a half we have learned how it works so thoroughly that we can explain all behavior with relative ease. But because it organizes organically in response to information, and because genetic defect is widely distributed, fixing it is hard.

2. And that said, you can still rely on empathy and intuition in psychology. Whereas in cognitive science + behavioral economics + testimony (my work) requires you to suppress your instinct and intuition and fully reason through the behavior from first causes.

1. If you understand enough cognitive science and behavioral economics, psychology as a field is still trying to make the transition from pseudoscience to at least applied science. Although, their focus on defect and utopia is different from ours on behavior, bias, and deceit.
