–“What is a gold bar good for in a crisis?”–
Having experienced this myself, and keeping gold coins (eagles) sewn in my “run bag” (along with 10k in cash) – that in war, in chaos, in the absence of electrical power, they are liquid and easily and greedily transacted. So yeah. Gold is the gold standard in crisis. The transaction cost is a bit high, so smaller coins are more useful than large ones. But if you want to exit a country in short order they’re the ultimate means of ‘influence’.
