(Animal power, including human power (Slavery) ‘worked’ universally – until steam, coal, and petroleum power made them inefficient and expensive.)

Slavery would have been unaffordable in competition with mechanized farming, and competition would have driven slavery out (as predicted) and mechanization in. Slaves are just too expensive.

Smart take.
Honest Take: Only mixed economies exist, and can exist. The productivity of women under western redistributive economies has been absorbed by excessive taxes, and the excess taxes prevent reproduction – which is how we know they’re excessive. 😉

OUCH: UNSKILLED IMMIGRANTS VS SLAVES AND SERFS
The difference lies in the indirect imposition of costs of unskilled people on the population, thereby allowing their employers to avoid paying for those costs. In effect that’s a theft (a crime) because it violates the prohibition on the imposition of costs by externality. (civil tort, class action)
