    WHY ARE MOST DESIGNERS ‘SH_T’?

    (rant on)

They have no formal training in design, in aesthetics, in composition, in the fine arts, in art history and very little intuitive talent.

They have no understanding of type, it’s history or symbolism. They think in boxes instead of white spaces. They think of getting information instead of only the necessary information. They think color matters rather than color suggests time and space “moments”.

If you cannot design it with white space and type, then you should go home. So design it with white space and type, and without any boxes at all. Ok? Remember “wax on, wax off”? Well, do the same: white space and type (wax on), new page (wax off), until you get it right.

To do that, (a) you start with a message, (b) you build a type pallette after researching the associations the audience will make with that type, and (b) you draw it freehand with pencil and paper, or at least Illustrator and a stylus.

After that, you add images and after that, color.

And then let the marketing people write all their absolutely sh_t copy, and then get it to a good writer or editor that can reduce it to no more than eight words. And hopefully not more than three. And test the sh_t copy from marketing and the edited copy on someone other than the marketer – preferably a customer. Watch how they read it, and then just ask them how they feel. Don’t ask for an opinion. How they feel is all that matters. Your client is an idiot. That’s their job: to be smart in their profession and an idiot in yours. (So try not to ALSO be an idiot.)

For most of you untalented ‘creatives’ (which is the opposite of what you really are), research the entire brand space. Put it in a hierarchy (order).

Build a pallet of fonts, symbols, colours and layouts.

And try to be craftsmanly. Try not to be ‘creative’, because in your case that means relying on your intuition. And really, it sucks. Becuase unless you have mastered your craft, your intuition is a hodge-podge of lower middle class and upper proletarian propaganda.

Great advertising is the truth spoken elegantly and succinctly.

Good artists copy great artists. Great artist steal.

Pre-schoolers and amateurs rely on ‘inspiration’.

Try not to suck. You just make the world uglier than if we only let the good people publish work, and sent you back to washing dishes in the scullery.

    Sigh.

What I don’t like myself, about american truth telling.

—“The U.S. and Finland both lean heavily towards the truth and directness, but what constitutes truth and directness varies greatly across cultures. Whereas Americans are comfortable taking liberty with the truth when it comes to marketing, selling and getting the business, to a Finn it can sound like lies. You see, the Finns believe that their words are their commitments. They establish their credibility by understating their abilities, and delivering what they promise. Period.”—

—“Since 2010, the Associated Press recently reported, the number of abortions nationwide has decreased by about 12 percent. This decline has been happening, slowly and steadily, for a quarter of a century: Since 1990, the rate of abortions has fallen by more than a third, and the raw number of abortions has fallen by more than half.”—

    Sigh.

–“Doctor John Dolittle is the central character of a series of children’s books by Hugh Lofting starting with the 1920 The Story of Doctor Dolittle. He is a doctor who shuns human patients in favour of animals, with whom he can speak in their own languages. He later becomes a naturalist, using his abilities to speak with animals to better understand nature and the history of the world.

Doctor Dolittle first appeared in the author’s illustrated letters to children, written from the trenches during World War I when actual news, he later said, was either too horrible or too dull. The stories are set in early Victorian England, where Doctor John Dolittle lives in the fictional English village of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh in the West Country”–

    (Russian ridicule of Ukraine)

I had a lot of childish fun trolling this pro-Putin site today. 🙂 I am happy to admit it’s childish. I am also happy to admit that it was fun.

    —-

What’s your point? That we shouldn’t hire foreigners? We have a government saturated with people paid off by the Kremlin. That’s why we’re engaging in lustration – to purge them and their pervasive corruption. So we are hiring foreigners to help with lustration.

Ukraine has decided it is European. Muscovite Russia has decided it is Mongolian. We all retreat to our roots under pressure. There may be 140M Muscovites, but there are 1B+ westerners, 1B+ Chinese, 1B+ Muslims, and 1B+ Hindus. Russians cannot reform. Russians cannot build a diverse economy. Russia cannot join modernity. We understand the choice. However, we do not want to be prisoners of Russia’s bad decisions.

Russians are foolish. They could have ruled the world. The west wanted them to. Putin was becoming the most influential man in the world. But instead of just saying ‘no democratic revolution here’ they attacked Ukraine, and broke the postwar consensus. All out of fear of spread of democracy.

We don’t necessarily think democracy and hedonism are good things either. On the other hand, almost anything is better than ongoing Russian despotism and poverty.

Haven’t Russians harmed eastern Europe enough for one millennium?

    =======

Maybe, but trolling you clowns for an afternoon provided endless entertainment for the office. lol

See your technique is a variation of critique: rallying and shaming. the counter to this strategy is to attack obvious and consistent Russian failures while ignoring your responses. Since Russia produces so many obvious and consistent failures this turns out to be easy. Each Troll’s response is an opportunity to repeat key memes. And we repeat the meme’s over and over again by merely riffing off of whatever the trolls manage to desperately say.

    Russian memes:

    – Russians are the only white people who failed.

    – Russians are poor, ignorant, rude, stupid, bovine morons.

    – Russians are alcoholics who die at an early age.

    – Russians can’t drive across a street without running over two old ladies, a mother and her child.

    – Russians can’t cross the street and use a telephone at the same time.

    – Russians are superstitious conspiracy theories who believe in electromagnetic radiation.

    – Russians are incapable of innovation, but they can copy the germans and the Americans now and then.

    – Russians are worse than the nazis and killed more people than nazis.

    – Russians are the only people to kill more of their own than the enemy.

    – Russians are incapable of self-government, let alone anyone else.

    – Russians are the lowest trust white people.

    – Russians are the most ignorant white people.

    – Russians are the most corrupt white people.

    – Russians are white people’s trailer trash.

    – Russians believe they’re Rus, rather than muscovites – it’s because their envious.

    – Russians are just Mongols who look white.

    – You can take the slut out of the village but you can’t take slut out of the girl.

    etc. the list is endless.

The Russian strategy is to poison the informational commons (the Internet) so that even though only 50% of Russians have access to the internet, they will disregard it as chaotic, and return to state-sponsored media, rather than to learn the truth: that they live like subsaharan Africans in the opposite temperature extreme. And that they are poor only because of the corruption of their leadership, and its failure to create a diverse economy.

The set of alliances that the kremlin must keep in competition with one another is complex and tenuous. The black market and drugs are controlled by the FSB. The Chechens are more combat effective than the Russian military. The mafia is required to keep order. And 50% of the country is dependent on oil revenues Layers of corruption are difficult to manage.

The decisions have been made. NATO will arm the east and re-pivot against Russia. The sanctions will continue. During the next opportunity they will arm both Poland and Turkey. Ukraine will isolate the conquered Donbas region, and without federalization the rest of Ukraine will vote consistently for lustration and membership in Europe It will take ten years to clean the bureaucracy of Russians and Russian plants, but it will be done. And right sector will simply kill them if they don’t do it.

Meanwhile we’re going to be over here laughing at the ongoing collapse of the economy.

April was what -4.2%? An employer of 70,000 is bankrupt but the state can’t afford to let it go under? The worst that happens to Ukraine is that it’s a better investment than greece. the worst that happens to Russia is that the lowest populated country per square kilometer is incrementally cut off on all sides by peoples who justifiably hate it.

I mean, what’s china doing? They’re already taking Siberia back. The Muslims are a few years from taking Moscow.

Idiots. Could have run the world. Ran like little girls away from the fear of democracy.
