Just as the byzantines and Turks of the middle east used higher trust European military mercenaries, European kings used lower trust Jews as tax and credit mercenaries. In most of Europe Jews were the property of the monarchy and under its protection.

Ancestors of all People are criminal and immoral by our present standard, but it is their labor though the suppression of criminality and its replacement with trade industry and technology that made our present privilege possible.
