The point here is that slavery was just the most recent violation the north imposed at the time. And the reason of course was control of westward expansion that woud have put Atlanta in control of the continent outside of the northeast.
I’m not defending slavery, but the myth that slavery was the reason rather than the last straw. When in fact, slavery would be increasingly economically unviable over the folowing 30 years leading to it’s gradual end, it was a minority of slave owners but a substantial part of the southern economy, and instead an attack on the economy and strategic organization of the south to prevent it’s control of westward expansion.
My point is that we are very close to finding a ‘slavery’ issue at the moment, and this time it’s for the same reason: monopoly control over what is a set of nations.
