Under feudalism (distributed rule), the aristocracy (military), needed to maintain landholdings(production) in the family by giving it to the eldest (Primogeniture) instead of distributing it to all the males. This caused much of the aristocracy that had no other options to take positions in the churches which were all paid for by these aristocratic femilies. This meant that the aristocdracy owned both the manor and the church, and they divided responsibility giving church management of the peasants in matters of behaviora and morals, and the manor in matters of property, and the shire courts, city courts, and parliament for escalating resolution of disputes. The aristocratic families would then accumulate land in the local church to provide income for these sons. The church landsd were not taxed. Over time the church held half of all land in Europe.

Aristocracy is the term for rule by the best, and that was always the military families. Christianity was possible because it gave the women slaves and bottom classes a means of status in aristocratic civilization, despite no ability or resources – by just doing nothing wrong.

I know you would like to think that but for five thousand years the three pillars have been the military(aristocracy), the law, and the religion. This is why the west is the only ‘trifunctional’ civilization. We separate the state, the law (think constitution, rights, common law) and the faith and we have always had three sets of elites. This is why the church could never fully succeed – it was captured by the aristocdracy who used it as a holding company for local land under primogeniture.
If instead you said The Militia(arms), the Constitution(Law), and Christianity(the faith) then that trifuncitonal organization is what makes us special.
The difference between us is only which of these we give priority to in which circumstancde. The aristocdracy the military, the burghers the law, and the peasants the faith.
The state is trying to coopt all three – ending trifunctionalism and creating yet another monopoly that is the reason every other civlization failed to bring about modernity but us.. Thats why we must end it.
