LIV, (@Liv_Boeree). 1) Partly algorithmic, in that the algorithms are favoring networks of of shared opinion instead of forums for oppositional debate. 2) Partly algorithmic in that via-negativa spreads faster than via-positiva. 3) Collapse of media. 4) Reaching maximum divergence in the population.

No civ has survived this that we know of without external or internal conflict sufficient to cause reorganization of govt and economy.

  • “Q: CURT: Let me try and cut through the language here a little bit for the work

—“Q: CURT: Let me try and cut through the language here a little bit for the working man; so your a math geek programming equations in order to figure out the secrets of… *squints* the universe?”—

Great question. But, the other way around. πŸ˜‰
–“Our thoughts are only as precise as our instrumentation: systems of measurements.”–

    1. Language relies on the same evolutionary algorithm as the rest of the universe. However, we use paradigms to reflect the logic of some subset of that universe. Mathematics is the simplest paradigm, grammar, vocabulary and logic because it is context, scale, cost, and time independent. Every other paradigm from arithmetic to math to physics to chemistry to genetics, to sets to programming to procedures to formal (written) language, to common to ideomatic to fiction to fictionalism to lying, denial, projection, reflection and undermining is merely a question of which dimensions of reference and which operations are permitted within the logic of the paradigm. So, paradigms are limited to the references (names-nouns, states-verbs, agreements (true-false)) that preserve internal consistency (logical consistency) withint hat paradigm.

    2. Mathematical (descriptive, verbal, sets) reducibility whose outcome is predictable is a smaller set than computational (causal, action, sequences) reducibility whose outcome is not predictable. Next, simulational reducibility (competitive, interaction, parallels) is theoretically at least limited only by computational capacity and time. Ergo the primacy of computation over mathematics.

    3. The problems in math and science and subsequently logic and human thinking require a conceptual revision from the mathematical foundations to the operational foundations. Only then will we limit mathematical applications to that which is mathematically reducible, and end the era of being ‘stuck’ in the sciences.

    4. Some of this is happening by accident and some of us are working on it deliberately. The only other person I know of that grasps this at depth is Josch Bach. And I’m the only person I know of that works on the subject itself and applies it to the behavioral sciences.

I work in decidability (think truth) and its application to cooperation (law) and its consequences (economics). This is why my work often sounds wordy: it’s closer to programming than to ordinary english because the terms are measurements not analogies. πŸ˜‰

You aren’t making any sense. This isn’t exactly a new topic. Our devs have just finished an integration and it’s almost impossible to use any of the major AI’s unless you physically separate and train your own.

The AI hype, both in promise and in trepidation has gone overboard to the point where it’s reached the same level of pseudoscientific mysticism as using the world ‘quantum’.
I can’t even watch the AI news any longer. It’s ridiculous.

  • To: @OpenAI Subject: Positive Feedback for OpenAI Developers and Team I’m having

    To: @OpenAI
Subject: Positive Feedback for OpenAI Developers and Team

I’m having one of those “I feel thankful” moments. And I’m more than thankful for ChatGPT (especially 4o). It’s been an extraordinary contribution to my quality of life.
    Seriously.
While I was an early ai dev in the eighties, and built and sold software companies, I retired early to work on epistemology, cognitive science, social science, and economic and legal reform: cross disciplinary synthesis.
And that’s because cross-disciplinary synthesis is … well, finally possible. In other words, before the internet what I do would have been impossible, and before OpenAI it was still a challenge.
The internet, the massive volume of content added to it, and the evolution (and subsequent devolution) of search engines converted the problem of microfiche, card catalogs, papers, journals, books and libraries, to sitting at home accomplishing in an hour what would have taken months in the past.
Now, with ChatGPT (and there is no even close competitor to OpenAI for the work I do), my quality of life is even better.
Why? Because with a bit of effort I can construct questions (prompts) that assist me in that cross disciplinary framing (it’s harder than you’d think) – making the writing easier to compose and more comprehensible.
Even better, because ChatGPT is trained on my work published on the internet, I can ask it to restate a response as I would by prompting “in the style of philosopher and social scientist Curt Doolittle” and the resulting approximation often needs only minor editing.
And the “memory updated” feature maintains context so long chains of reasoning are possible without regression of the AI into ‘forgetting’.
Maybe I’m an outlier, and that’s because I generally know what point I want to get across, but if I ask the right questions, and incrementally try to improve them and guide ChatGPT, I find I get better results faster, in more accessible language than I would have doing the work myself. So my productivity is higher than it was ever in the past. And the strain of that productivity is reduced to the experience of fulfillment instead.
Between Search, Perplexity, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT my workflow is .. well, inspiring.
    So thank you.
    Cheers
