Google’s Gemini needs special ed class.

Sorry all but the new version ChatGPT o1 is TERRIBLE. They made it a calculator instead of collaborator. It doesn’t recognize your custom instructions, it has no recollection of your previous conversations, it’s grown ignorant of existing web content, and the ‘safety’ filters are absurd. I can’t get a straight answer out of it on anything meaningful.

Recursion (wayfinding, A* Q* et all) was to be the solution to the problem of hallucination on one hand and the capacity to improve iteratively on the other.

However, the improvements in calculating have come at the expense of comprehending. You can see this in the domains where o1 improved and those where it did not, such as english lit – and no literature is a test of deeper association and reasoning rather than deeper calculating.

So, unless these issues are corrected, I’ll be avoiding o1 and staying with 4o – which is like working with a partner on complex problems I could barely imagine finding more than a few other humans to help with.
