The current LLMs that will run on a phone are relatively simple. But then, so is the hardware on our phones. Even so, it’s clear we’ll be able to use locally running AIs in androids, robots, vehicles, military vehicles, missiles, planes, and satellites, faster than we’d assumed.

Our LLMs are dumb as a rock. But we haven’t hit anything near the low-level limit of the tech yet. But as someone who has worked on these questions to one degree or another for decades, we still have three (hard) layers of problems to solve. While we’re seeing some simple evolution of wayfinding and recursion, we still don’t have episodic memory, prediction, and judgment (morality) – and those are pretty hard problems.

Basically, we’d thought we’d need to build AI bottom up, but instead, we’re building it top down as a child learns from observing, listening, and identifying patterns. And it turns out that while we have less control over it, it’s working far better than any of us ever imagined.

Q: “What’s so great about the G Wagon?”
Designed as the ultimate 4WD vehicle at the request of Shah of Iran, who was a major Mercedes shareholder, and who wanted something superior to the Land Rover, that could be used by both military and civilian customers. And a better four wheel drive than the British Land Rover, the Japanese Toyota Land Cruiser, and the American Jeep.

It’s awesome to drive, and can literally run forever.

G-wagon is still the best-designed and built civilian vehicle, even if it’s unavailable in ‘working vehicle’ trim. We have lost the Defender, the Range Rover, the Toyota Land Cruiser, the Bronco, and even the Hummer H2/3 – and the Jeep is a fragile overpriced bit of virtue-signaling, beach boy, chick friendly, kiddie-kit without a hard top and proper modifications. 😉
Government regulation needs to apply to consumer vehicles, and less so for trucks, and they are ridiculous for rough-terrain working-vehicles.
    “Pussification of everything” 😉
    (Sorry. Had to say that.)

“The Fragility of Electronic Bots, Drones, Missiles “
    (Russian success at electronic warfare)
—Institute for The Study of War

Russian milbloggers continue to credit alleged superior Russian electronic warfare (EW) capabilities and defensive doctrine for Russian forces’ successful defenses against Ukrainian counteroffensive operations in southern Ukraine.

A prominent Russian milblogger claimed that Russian forces are implementing a “strategic defense” that seeks to attrit advancing Ukrainian forces in extended positional battles along a first line of defense before later launching counterattacks against weakened Ukrainian assault units.

ISW continues to assess that Russian forces are maintaining doctrinally sound defensive operations in this sector in which a first echelon of forces repels or slows attacking forces before a second echelon of forces counterattacks against any enemy breakthrough.

Another prominent Russian milblogger claimed that Russian EW complexes prevent Ukrainian forces from using precision-guided munitions guided by GPS coordinates and heavily disrupt Ukrainian radio communication.

The milblogger specifically claimed that Russian forces use “Murmansk-BN” EW complexes to disrupt sensors on Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance equipment and “Krasukha-4” EW complexes to suppress connections with satellite signals within a radius of 300km.

ISW has previously assessed that Russian EW capabilities have been critical in complicating Ukrainian attacks in the Zaporizhia direction, although it is unclear if continued successful Russian EW tactics are a result of superior capacities or improved Russian employment of these systems.

ISW has previously noted that initial Ukrainian assaults and Russian defensive operations should not be extrapolated to predict the outcome of all Ukrainian counteroffensive operations.

    (Friends and Followers)

    SITE UPDATE: Mobile Menu Fix
We have fixed the navigation problem on mobile phones. The ‘hamburger menu’ will open on the right side of the screen as an overlay. The main menu will use the full width if available. And the search function is in the main menu now instead of ‘too small’ in the header.

    ALSO: Content Complaints
Yes, there is content that is ‘stubbed out’. This helped us plan the full site content and how we would communicate our mission.

We (I) have intentionally mapped out the site in the menus, and we are slowly producing the work, then revising or posting the text to fill in the content. This is simply the easiest, clearest, least confusing means of creating a shared vision for the organization, producing the content vision, and preparing for our launch of the activism program.

We work in public. That has been part of our strategy since the very beginning. Our method of working with the site incrementally continues that long-standing strategy.

Why? There is no point in holding back anything until we’re done when it has taken so many years to conduct the research and solve the problems of the age.

WHY I KEEP USING THE TERM “P-LAW”
    (P-Method, P-Logic, P-Science, P-Law, etc.)

    “P-Complete” from Wikipedia:
“In computational complexity theory, a decision problem is P-complete (complete for the complexity class P) if it is in P and every problem in P can be reduced to it by an appropriate reduction.”

Ergo: **All existence can be explained by reduction to the first principles of evolutionary computation. In other words, anything that can exist can be reduced to a formal description in P-Law.**

I abandoned the term ‘Propertarianism’ since it applied only to the original system of measurement in ethics and morality. I kept the “P-” for P-Completeness. And because ‘-ism’ implies a philosophy, and P-Law is a formal logic: a science that unifies the logics and sciences.

    Ergo P-Law is P-Complete.

Geoffrey Hinton, despite his long history in the field, and having left Google recently to caution against AIs, makes a rather weak (silly) set of arguments to justify his fear of AI.

Language models are quite knowledgeable but extraordinarily dumb at present, non recursive, non-predictive, unable to form world models, and unable to make moral decisions (reciprocity, property, demonstrated interests), and are being trained to get worse by humans trying to teach language models not to be offensive, and therefore to lie.

So instead of explaining how to move language models into world models, predictions, cause-effect models, and moral (legal) judgements, he’s just launching scare tactics because of what he sees.

    Exasperating.
