This is true. It’s why we must use the law to require truth. Because the cost of lying is too cheap vs truth.

Q&A: “Curt, why do you use ‘humans’ and ‘they’ instead of ‘people’ and ‘we’?”

Because I am never sure what people hear when I say ‘we’ or ‘us’. So I make it clear that I’m making a universal statement about man, and acknowledging myself as a possible outlier, rather than casting us all as equal.

You know when african friends talk about white colonialism I just acknowledge that my ancestors – at least politically – thought that they were doing the right thing. And that it created malincentives. And that it turned into the very wrong thing. I can’t really apologize for it.

When my ancestors conquered north america, I don’t really face any conflict because primitive-is-primitive, and if you can’t evolve them into peers, then you can’t cooperate with them. But I don’t take pride in their conquest.

When my ancestors invaded England and ‘normanized’ the anglo saxons, I realize that this was a very bad thing for my kin, europa, and mankind.

When my ancestors advocated puritanism, stood against the Crown, and against the south, I acknowledge that they were wrong.

When thy created democracy they were wrong. And democracy has been a tragic failure.

When my kin evolved that puritanism into feminism and humanism, they were wrong. And caused a lot of harm.

The reason I don’t feel bad is that my ancestors brought reason, law, science, and all sorts of technology with them. Converted reason into science, and dragged man out of ignorance and poverty.

And I am fully aware that the reason for their skill at this technology was dependent upon their skill at war, which gave them competitive advantage in commerce.

YET, when I criticize other groups, and they defend themselves, and they make excuses. Rather than saying ‘yeah’, we really fucked up the world, and owning it.

They’re just engaging in lying. They won’t engage in reformation.

So, as the people who reform, we must reform not only ourselves, but reform others.

Else we cannot raise them to peerage and cooperate on equal terms.

Well, when you work in physics or any other physical science you must account for all the information. When you work in mathematics, aside from the problem of limits, you must account for all information. If you use propertarian argument, you can, in matters of human behavior, account for all information.

The more I work on the subject the more I understand that our history as moral creatures gave us tragic cognitive biases that take years of work to overcome.

If you are thinking sentimentally, reasonably, morally, rationally, or even scientifically, then you are probably not accounting for all the information: incentives.

Because information affects incentives in the human mind, the way information affects other information in the physical world.

This subject is worthy of a lot of research.

We are used to making decisions and considering sufficiency for decisions we account only for what we perceive as sufficient information.

Yet, we can test over and over again in in cognitive psychology, that humans CANNOT IGNORE information they are exposed to. They are forever changed by it just as physical objects are forever changed by the information (energy) that they are exposed to.

Information is the model that unifies the physical, cognitive, and social sciences. And accounting for information both positive (cooperative) and negative (parasitic) is the way we unify the sciences.

    (diary rant)

Got a hate mail today from a guy who:

    – Scammed me out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

    – Lost my company more than two million dollars.

    – Cheated on his wife with dozens of women.

    – To top it off, he seduced the wife of one of his top employees.

    – Gave her an incurable STD, which she passed on to her husband.

    – Is a fucking chronic liar on an astronomical scale.

    – Telling me that I am a bad person for ‘betraying’ my wife and business partners.

    – Asking me how I sleep at night.

Well, you know, it was surreal. Getting out of that environment, away from those … partners, away from my ex, was my goal, my doctor’s advice, and I did it. And to do it I pulled off the greatest deal of my career. And saved them.

    And what did they do?

I thought I was dead when I came here. I think I”m in good shape largely because I just got away from those …. people.

Do I have regrets? Absolutely. Had I not been so ill I probably could have kept my marriage. And I definitely have regrets over two or three of the many acquisitions I did in my life that did not work out as I’d hoped – I wish I could undo them. And I regret disappointing ‘ the little people ‘, but never the strong.

No. Do I sleep? Um…. my business and my writing keep me awake. The noise on the street keeps me awake. Caffeine sometimes keeps me awake. Celebrating keeps me up late. Do I miss Seattle? Well, now and then I really do. Do I miss that life? Not ever. Never never never. I freaking cringe when I think about it.

I love my life now. I wish I had done all this when I was 25.

    BEST DECISION EVER.
