You need the average IQ points to be high enough to distribute agency widely enough to reduce demand for authoritarian order. And with the unfortunate end of the Progressive’s euthenasia movement (that was, like prohibition, working just fine) by the postwar demonization of the nazis, the world is in a bit of a pinch between regression to the mean, reversal of upward redistribution, and the downward acceleration of reproduction.

    So I have pretty horrible chronic inflammation which is of course the source of my allergies and cancers. Over the course of the past year or two Dr Brad’s constant care, plus moving back to the northwest, appears to have put me on a gradual recovery path.
    However, every now and then one of the doctors puts me on a course of prednisone to crush my inflammation symptoms – meaning that I am having too much trouble breathing, coughing, or both. 😉
    At present I’m recovered enough and on the steroid, and I gotta say, this is what it used to be like ‘to be me’. It’s taken years of recovery, the discovery and cure of one of the underlying infections, and a lot of self defense in what I eat and touch, and most importantly jealously and radically using sleep whenever possible. Power naps in particular. And not overdoing it.
    Also, working again (we’re fundraising) is contributing. It is not good for body, mind, or soul to write by one’s self for months and years. It certainly didn’t help my waistline either. 😉
    But I can tell by my writing, attention span, work capacity, and the restoration of the ‘magic’ that happens on the fringe of my consciousness where this rather terrifying gigantic autistic monster of an obsessive machine in my head processes information into associations regardless of my wishes – and thankfully in this condition, if correctly occupied with interesting problems, tends to cast off insights and ideas with a sort of reckless abandon, I need only write down as fast as I can, like a cash machine is spitting out as stream of Benjamins.
    Anyway, this is a way of saying Thank You to Dr Brad for his patient care in the face of my frailty, stubbornness and folly. Without him I don’t think I’d be here.
    And of course, thanks to all of you who have been so supportive over the past few years as I struggled with ‘long covid’ on top of it all. 😉

    (FWIW: practicing thankfulness is probably one of the best things I have learned. i recommend it.)

    It’s not off topic. It’s a great question.

    The Nordic countries aren’t socialist. They are capitalist monarchies with strong rule of law, high trust, and well-managed commons. What socialists call “socialism” is actually redistribution within a market economy under a monarchy that preserves continuity of sovereignty.

    The monarchies exist precisely because those societies evolved under aristocratic (heroic) and then noble (churchly) orders, producing high-trust populations and reciprocal institutions. The monarchy provides a symbolic sovereign above politics, while the government manages administration. That separation stabilizes the polity and prevents capture.

    Socialists ignore the monarchies because acknowledging them undermines their narrative. They want to claim Nordic prosperity comes from redistribution, when in truth it comes from:

    1. Ethnically homogeneous, high-trust populations evolved under thousands of years of reciprocal norms.

    2. Markets and private property, not socialism, as the engine of prosperity.

    3. Monarchical continuity that preserves sovereignty, tradition, and legitimacy.

    4. Limited redistribution built on wealth already created by markets.

    So yes, they are monarchies—but monarchies that have managed to preserve cooperation, sovereignty, and reciprocity while adapting redistribution to fit their circumstances.

    The socialist misrepresentation is a false promise: they bait others into hazard by pretending you can get Nordic outcomes from diversity, low trust, or socialism—when you cannot.
